HALF MAGIC is an A24 portfolio company. A24 is the global entertainment company behind the Emmy-winning series Euphoria, Golden Globe-winning series Ramy, and award-winning films such as Minari, Moonlight, Lady Bird, Midsommar, Amy, Uncut Gems and The Tragedy of Macbeth.
THE ROLE
This position will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day Product Development and Packaging functions from concept to production and owning the product and packaging development and timeline for several SKUs. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter with strong project management skills, who is detailed-oriented, organized, and has a strong interest in color cosmetics.
The position is located in Los Angeles and will report to the Senior Director of Product Development and Packaging. This position will be hybrid in nature with at least 2 days in office per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General Product Development
- Lead all stages of the Product Development process from conception and briefing to launch for limited-edition and holiday sets, shade extension and sampling SKUs o Opportunity to grow and own additional NPD SKUs over time
- Provide general support to Senior Director of Product Development and Packaging o Report project status (completed milestones, upcoming deadlines, inherent risks, contingency plans) to wider team and upper management clearly and tactfully during weekly NPD meetings
- Research and evaluate new and best-selling competitive products to help guide product positioning as it relates to formula, packaging, claims and product pricing
- Create product competitive analyses
- Create strong visual decks to support PD launch strategy and communicate positioning to relevant cross-functional teams (i.e. Marketing and Sales)
- Conduct in-house product testing surveys and gather feedback to inform development direction
- Identify process improvement opportunities and work with Senior Director to implement solutions
- Track project milestones and work closely with vendors and Operations team to communicate shifts in the development timeline, while troubleshooting solutions to ensure a successful product launch
- Evaluate batch submissions for color products, establishing standards as needed, relaying feedback and/or approvals to suppliers to ensure a seamless manufacturing process, and updating relevant tracking logs
Administrative
- Attend all supplier meetings and share relevant notes following meetings to ensure clear and concise project status recaps with manufacturers
- Maintain accurate and complete product information files- testing logs, formula masters and packaging standards, re-order batch submission logs, etc.
- Oversee testing status throughout development process for all projects to ensure all (stability, compatibility and other formula testing) is completed and review product samples after testing periods to validate results, confirming all products meet Half Magic standards
- Manage and organize product samples, including but not limited to development submissions, packaging prototypes, product standards, shade standards, competitive samples, and range boards
- Prepare and track comps for internal and retailer meetings, photoshoots, activations/events, and photo-ready samples
- Assist in the gathering and tracking of regulatory documents needed for compliancy efforts
- Send and receive packages as needed
Package Development
- Manage and oversee package development for relevant NPD projects/SKUs – i.e. limited-edition and holiday sets, shade extension and sampling SKUs
- Lead artwork compilation and approval process for relevant NPD projects/SKUs
- Proof primary, label and secondary copy and artwork
- Manage sizing of bottom and shade labels as well as cartons, gathering dielines and deco areas as needed to complete artwork layout for relevant projects o Create fill and assembly instructions, including packout standards
- Lead select vendor outreach in order to source primary components and new innovation
- Review primary packaging range boards and line trial samples to ensure they meet brand standards
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-4 years of Product Development experience. Packaging experience preferred but not required
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Driven go-getter who is eager to learn

Our target compensation range for this role is between $70,000 and $80,000 annually. Actual starting salary within the range will depend on various considerations, including: work experience, skills, specializations, and training. This role is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, competitive healthcare, as well as other employee benefits.
