We are seeking two (2) Graphic Artist II to help us fulfill that mission.

The Graphic Artist II position within Test Services group has responsibility for all graphic design, illustration, and production activities related to test forms for targeted components of ACT tests and assessment instruments across the K-career continuum. This includes responsibility for graphic design and development activities, guiding this work within Test Services and working closely with colleagues in Measurement Research and Development (MRD).

The finalists will be hired at the salary and level commensurate with their qualifications. For these openings, we anticipate offering an annual salary in the range of $56,000 to $58,000. ACT manages salaries within the range based on relevant factors including, skills, experience, and internal equity. The positions are not incentive eligible.

Location: Remote (can also be onsite or hybrid if in Iowa City, Iowa area)

A Day in the Life:

  • Develop and maintain standard formats and templates for major test projects and production.
  • Prepare electronic copy of major test projects for submission to external print vendors as assigned.
  • Produce graphics/illustrations in digital formats for paper and computer-based tests, including automation for variable data graphics.
  • Monitor the production schedule and ensure deadlines are met on assigned projects.
  • Maintain a superior level of proficiency in all relevant publishing applications, graphic reproduction, and printing technologies.
  • Perform production tasks in content development system and collaborate with the Content Systems team on issues and updates.
  • Ensure accessibility guidelines and specifications are applied to test graphics/illustrations.
  • Instruct assigned graphic arts staff on standard procedures and specifications for test formatting and graphic production.
  • Perform technical quality control on test formatting and graphics produced by other graphic arts staff.
  • Assist in defining, documenting and maintaining quality control, security, process improvement, and performance measures and metrics for all assigned projects.
  • Assist in the hiring of graphic arts team members.

Role Progression:

  • Within 1 month you will be familiar with the Test Services team and your role in the team and within the organization. You will gain an understanding of ACT products and publishing specifications/guidelines for each individual product.
  • Within 3 months you will understand our content management systems and how to work effectively in the systems to access and complete your work. With coaching and support from Senior team members, you will utilize templates and apply guidelines to produce your deliverables, paying close attention to details.
  • Within 6 months you will be working independently to format test booklets, create graphics for assessment content, and produce print-ready pdf files. You will consult with senior team members and collaborate with colleagues to produce consistent high-quality assessment materials.

About You (Minimum Requirements):

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience resulting in the mastery of prescribed assessment production practices (e.g., deep knowledge of current printing technologies and procedures)
  • Expert use of publishing/graphic software, including, but not limited to Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office using Windows environment
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technology and procedures
  • Knowledge of educational assessment publishing practices and procedures
  • Proficient at technical or operational planning and implementation
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding corporate information
