Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Safety, Health & Environmental Officer for an onsite position on a project based in Central, Michigan.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing the requirements of AECOM’s Environmental Health and Safety Plans (EHASPs) in accordance with AECOM, OSHA and USACE’s EM-385-1-1 requirements.
  • Generate and/or support team members in preparation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) in accordance with Client standards.
  • Perform on-site health and safety orientations for workers and visitor orientations.
  • Participate in weekly project team meetings and discuss any health and safety related topics.
  • Lead daily safety tailgate meetings with AECOM staff and AECOM’s subcontractors on-site.
  • Daily attendance on-site performing health and safety oversight of construction work.
  • Track and monitor the Contractor’s compliance with EHASP(s) and JHA(s).
  • Track and monitor all site EHSRs’ performance including, but not limited to, reviewing the EHSR’s daily reports and whether EHS issues are being adequately addressed.
  • Perform and submit daily reports of the Contractors’ Work areas and document non-compliance with the Contractor’s EHASPs and JHAs.
  • Review Contractor’s incident reports for adequacy, participate in meetings related to construction related incidents, and verify all necessary Contractor corrective actions are implemented.
  • Implements policies and procedures to assure awareness of and compliance with health and safety requirements of the organization. 
  • Provides technical leadership and functional guidance to ensure regulatory standards are being enforced. 
  • Ensures that quality control procedures are executed to monitor all aspects of regulations. 
  • Serves in a liaison capacity with the client safety representative in promoting environmental safety and health activities. 
  • Communicates programs to enhance employee awareness of prevention and compliance. 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS in Safety, Engineering, Environmental, Safety, or other Science or related degree plus 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • The role is subject to a background check and MVR check
  • Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER
  • OSHA 30
  • OSHA 10
  • Position requires to be on site at project location in central Michigan on weekdays, although weekend work is not anticipated, it may be required based on progress of project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Annual Refresher OSHA 8-hour 29 CFR 1910.120/1926.65 HAZWOPER Course.
  • USACE EM-385-1-1 40-hour Course.
  • Knowledgeable in USACE EM-385-1-1 Safety Requirements.
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) and/or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and 1910 Regulations.
  • Knowledgeable in use of USACE Resident Management System (RMS).
