Airport Operations Manager

Job Overview

Position is responsible for the management of the Ramp/Operations department with the leadership objective to maintain a well-trained and professional team within the scope of Aircraft Turnaround, Aircraft Loading, Crew Activities, Flight Operations, and OPS1 Quality Assurance. All activities are performed in in accordance with company standards and objectives for flight safety and security of operations.

Organizational context

The Ramp/Operations department coordinates all crew and aircraft handling activities of the flights in accordance with company safety, security, on time performance, service delivery and aircraft handling process objectives. The department coordinates crew accommodation and transportation, monitors and oversees the aircraft handling processes including activities performed by service providers, provide the cockpit crew with operational flight briefing information coordinates and dispatches flight movement and scheduling information, coordinates and monitors the physical loading of the aircraft.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manages the department’s activities in order to guarantee that the daily operation is compliant with company rules and civil aviation regulations

• Ensures that all safety and security measures are followed
• Ensures excellence in customer relations in regards to flight crew as internal Customers.
• Establishes, implements, and follows-up on local written procedures pertinent to operations
• Monitors activity jointly with Cargo department on compliance with Station/Cargo Protocol
• Contributes to On-Time Performance results through performance of the team of flight coordinators and of Station Supervisors assigned to the Operations domain seasonally.
• Analyzes discrepancies and delays related to Ramp and operations
• Assumes the responsibility of Duty Manager

2. Manages the Station’s implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS)

• Ensures that applicable documentation are available to all parties and updates provided in a timely manner
• Monitors on the level of safety of the work environment on the Ramp and implements necessary actions
• Organizes and coordinates systematic control of the operation conformities.
• Ensures regularly documented meetings with key suppliers in accordance with the Station Quality System.
• Performs control checklists in accordance with the company regulation and corporation action plans, in order to achieve continuous improvement.
• Acts as the SMS correspondent
• Provides regulatory feedback through Safety Management reporting system.

3. Manages the service providers to ensure delivery of services in accordance to contracts and/or SLA.

• Builds and maintains relationships with service providers.
• Manages periodic meetings with ground services providers
• Monitors the training of the service providers in accordance with company requirements
• Monitors and follows up subcontractors’ performance on their duties and responsibilities through PDCA system.
• Reports to purchasing department all anomalies pertaining to ground handling contracts and crew accommodation / transportation contracts and proposes ways and means to save on contract costs

4. Manages the team within the local HR policies - in order to enhance performance and to increase staff satisfaction

• Participates in recruitment and selection
• Appraises direct reports in line with the Establishment HR policies and Procedures.
• Actively supports in staff development.
• Leads & coaches direct reports
• Ensures that the regulatory training for the department is up to date

5. Acts as the JFK correspondent for Headquarters’ flight operations department for airport navigation and infrastructure

• Monitors and follows-up with Airport Authorities on ramp infrastructure to guarantee compliance with international, local and company standards of safety.
• Actively participates in Airport Ramp & Flight Safety meetings, including Airfield Safety, FAA (RSAT), and Noise Abatement.
• Provides information to flight operations departments on NYC area airports’ infrastructure to contribute to accurate information to flight crews and flight planning departments
• Liaise with OCC/Hub for any updates or changes that may affect the operations

Job-Requirements: knowledge, learned disciplines, experience

• Must have managerial and supervisory experience. Highly disciplined and professional.
• Knowledgeable of all operational, ramp and flight activities. He/she must deal well under high
• Pressure situations. Excellent management skills and strong communication skills are required.
• Proficient in AGOA (analytics and back-office)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $78,500.00 per year
