Animal Care Laboratory Technician

The Biology Departmentat Bard College is looking for a part-time technician to assist Bard laboratory staff and faculty in the daily activities and duties of animal care. Most of the care will be for our zebrafish colony, but other animals may be present during the year. The Animal Care Laboratory Technician will support faculty and students with live animal research. This is a part-time (10-15 hours per week), year-round position.

Essential Duties

  • Weekend and Holiday feedings REQUIRED
  • Food preparation
  • Completing one to three feedings per day
  • Completing daily checklists
  • Cleaning habitats
  • Performing water chemistry tests
  • Record keeping
  • Adhering to laboratory quarantine policy and procedures
  • Zebrafish breeding
  • Maintenance and repair of habitats

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, or the equivalent
  • Ability to work independently
  • Communication skills
  • Reliable transportation
