Possibility Space is seeking a Mid-level Animator to help bring our fantastical original IP to life. Do you love creating engaging moments in games that can delight and surprise players? Do you enjoy balancing the technical craft of game development with the artistic craft of animation?

The Animator will work with the Animation Director to deliver on animation needs while consistently upholding the project’s animation tone and style. They will create appealing key-framed animations for a diverse set of characters and contexts, while engaging actively in how animations will present in the game.


The Animator will collaborate with Design, Programming, Tech-Art, Art, and Audio teammates to make appealing animations for our unique gameplay. They will work with an intentionally cross-disciplinary mindset to bridge design, story, art, and tech in their animation craft and workflow, as well as collaborate creatively with Audio and VFX disciplines for a holistic game presentation approach.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & OBJECTIVES 


  • Animate to a specified tone and style: Make appealing animations that uphold our project’s animation style and quality bar by fully key-framing or creating stylized animations from a motion-captured base.
  • Apply animation feedback effectively: Using feedback from the Animation Director, polish animations to the designated style and quality bar using effective animation workflows
  • Work in the engine: Implement, update, and regularly play-test your work in-game throughout production.
  • Animate considering functional game contexts: Create animations with an understanding of how it will need to function in the game, collaborating with Design, Programming, and Tech-art teammates to partner craft and tech effectively.
  • Animate considering holistic presentation elements: Engage creatively with Art, Audio, and VFX teammates to design animations within the greater presentation pillars of the project.


CORE TRAITS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE)


  • Experience in an active game development production (un-shipped projects still apply!)
  • Experience creating animation sets for character gameplay contexts
  • Strong understanding of how to use the principals of animation to deliver on a specified animation style
  • Ability to apply feedback on animations and polish to the determined quality bar
  • A cross-disciplinary mindset that balances the craft of animation with the functional aspects of gameplay


BONUS TRAITS


  • Comfortable implementing animation content and/or animation systems in a game engine
  • Experience designing effective animation systems in a game engine in partnership with Programmers and Tech Artists
  • Previous experience pushing motion-capture into stylized animations
  • Experience developing with Unity 
  • Experience animating with Blender
  • Experience shipping with stylized art and animation visual direction
  • Experience with user-generated content


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 


  • Close vision to monitors and screens, consistently working on computer equipment such as keyboards and monitors, long periods of sitting.
