Legal Clerical Assistant

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, has an immediate opening for a Legal Clerical Assistant in our Pasadena, California office to provide administrative support, to include calendar management, for our Claims Legal team.

ESSENTIAL ESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sorts, scans and indexes mail and legal documents.
  • Enters calendar data in multiple systems.
  • Manages calendar conflicts.
  • Ensures assignment of attorneys to attend hearings and depositions.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with attorneys, legal and claims staff, court reporters, and court clerks.
  • Prepares outgoing mail for the US Postal Service.
  • Copy and file work as requested.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Credential such as GED, HiSET, or TASC required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of prior experience performing administrative work in a professional business setting.
  • Computer Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office software. Ability to quickly master proprietary and vendor software applications. 
  • Attention to Detail: Accomplishes processes and tasks accurately and completely. Monitors and checks work for quality assurance. Sets up procedures to ensure high-quality work. Completes all work according to company standards.
  • Communication: Effective written and oral communicator with solid interpersonal skills. Listens and asks questions to fully understand the task or issue at hand. Writes clearly and concisely in a variety of contexts and formats. Communicates issues to both internal and external parties in a timely manner.
  • Time Management: Effectively manages time in order to accomplish work. Appropriately prioritizes tasks according to importance and time constraints. Is always aware of the status of assigned tasks. Regularly keeps others informed of task status. Uses project management systems and calendars to keep organized.
  • Reliability: Demonstrates high level of dependability in all aspects of the job. Completes tasks on time and with minimal supervision. Arrives at work on time each day. Shows dedication to work and follows through on projects.
  • Math and Reasoning Ability: Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where some limited standardization exists. Able to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


In accordance with the California Equal Pay Act, the starting hourly wage for this job is $20.4327. This hourly wage is what the employer reasonably expects to pay for the position based on potential employee qualifications, operational needs and other considerations consistent with applicable law. The pay scale applies only to this position and only if it is filled in Pasadena, California. The pay scale may be different for other positions or in other locations.
