Job Brief

As the Director of Procurement and Supply Chain Strategy, you will oversee and manage all aspects of procurement, supply chain, and logistics for Brimstone. You will lead the development and execution of a procurement strategy that ensures efficient operations, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with government and industry standards. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines strategic thinking with tactical execution. Travel will be required for this role.

This role is based in Oakland, California and can be worked as a hybrid position. 

Key Focus Areas of the role may include:

Strategic Procurement Leadership

  • Develop and implement Brimstone’s standard procurement procedures to support pilot, demonstration, and commercial operations

  • Align procurement strategy with organizational goals, future growth, and industry trends

  • Build and scale an in-house procurement team to meet Brimstone’s evolving needs

Operational Procurement Execution

  • Oversee the full procure-to-pay (P2P) cycle, including creating purchase orders, tracking deliveries, and resolving discrepancies

  • Approve supplier selection, negotiate contracts, and implement agreements for local and international procurement of goods and services

  • Purchase, coordinate, and expedite materials, parts, and assemblies between vendors, departments, and field offices

  • Partner with Accounting to manage fixed asset tracking and complete annual physical counts

Vendor and Stakeholder Management

  • Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships, ensuring onboarding into the P2P system and adherence to contract terms

  • Lead RFQ processes and competitive bidding to secure the best quality, delivery, and pricing

  • Partner with legal and finance teams to draft and finalize purchase/supply agreements and SOWs

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with government contracts and capital procurement under government awards

  • Manage procurement in high-risk markets, emphasizing regulatory and safety compliance

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with R&D and engineering teams to ensure alignment on material requirements and specifications, particularly for mineral processing/metallurgical equipment

  • Collaborate with operations, accounting, and finance teams to align procurement processes with organizational goals

Travel and Site Engagement

  • Visit field locations, vendor facilities, and manufacturing sites to maintain supplier relationships and ensure project success

For this role, we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, procurement, business administration, engineering, or a related field

  • Professional certifications such as CPSM, CSCP, or CPPB are advantageous

  • 5–10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, ideally in heavy industry (e.g., manufacturing, energy, mining, or construction)

  • Proven expertise in government contracts, capital procurement, and managing procurement under government awards

  • Demonstrated experience negotiating contracts and building long-term supplier partnerships

  • Experience working in startup or scaling organizations, with a track record of developing processes from the ground up

  • Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)

  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating supplier bids, cost analysis, and inventory management

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to align procurement with business objectives

  • Collaborative and adaptable mindset to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Strong communication skills to partner with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders

  • Meticulous attention to detail in contracts, compliance, and supplier agreements

Additional skills that are preferred but not required:

  • Familiarity metallurgical equipment is a strong plus
