Graphic Designer (Map Designer)

Our client, a high-growth tech company, is transforming industry solutions with a core product designed to elevate wayfinding experiences. This includes a Mapping Module that provides users with a detailed directory of Points of Interest and turn-by-turn walking directions across facilities or campuses.

As a Map Designer, you will play a key role in bringing this product to life by converting various building and property reference materials—such as maps, blueprints, photos, and videos—into illustrated map files in both PDF and SVG formats (See these examples).

This is a part-time contractor position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work on exciting projects. Please note that benefits are not included.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Design Manager to understand map design requirements, including areas, level of detail needed, and solutions for any problem areas with limited reference materials.

  • Transform blueprints, existing maps, property photos, videos, and satellite imagery into vector-based map illustrations optimized for mobile viewing.

  • Leverage an established design system with reusable map components to create designs that maintain a small file size upon export.

  • Troubleshoot design challenges and creatively piece together accurate and cohesive map illustrations based on available references.

Required Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in graphic or UI design.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator or Figma, particularly with the pen tool and creating shapes and components from scratch.

  • Experience in file organization and grooming for optimal design workflows.
