Senior Manager, Clinical Laboratory

Job Purpose

Provide managerial oversite of clinical laboratory operations while coordinating efforts with site management.  Oversee analysis of body fluid specimens in accordance with client protocol using established SOPs.  Assist and coordinate efforts with clinical laboratory associates.  Exercise independent judgment and responsibility with minimal supervision by Technical Director.  This is a client facing position and shapes the client’s view of the laboratory.  Professional and positive communication is expected.


Essential Functions
  • Responsible for staff management in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; development and coaching of employees.
  • Body fluid analysis, using manual and automated testing procedures
  • Attend site management meetings with interaction as appropriate
  • Provide a positive, professional attitude by attending client meetings and conducting laboratory tours.  Designates a replacement if unable to attend in person
  • Evaluate study feasibility and work with site management and principal investigators to manage expectations and timelines
  • Responds to inquiries, both internal and external in a timely manner. Initial response is expected within 4 hours during normal business hours  
  • Coordinates installation, validation and implementation of new equipment
  • Create/QCs laboratory orders as required by project
  • Quality control evaluation and data review of analytical runs
  • Trouble-shooting and problem-solving responsibilities; Verifies completion of competency testing as appropriate, Participates in the performance review process for laboratory associates, Computer entry of analytical results, Documentation of test data, Inventory control of routine materials and special orders for use within the clinical laboratory
  • Coordinate work with other departments as required by project.
  • Prepare and update standard operating procedures
  • Ensure laboratory meets applicable regulatory requirements 
  • Meetings and in-service education
  • Coordinate fees for outside services


Requirements
  • MT/MLS (ASCP or equivalent) required
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience as laboratory scientist
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience or other people management/work unit management experience
  • Minimum 1 year of professional client service/client relations experience preferred
  • Demonstrated communication (written and verbal) skills
