Athletic Trainer/Therapist  

Performance Medicine

Permanent/On-Call Position​ 

 


We are looking for our next On-Call Athletic Trainer/Therapist to bring support to our Performance Medicine team. In this position, you will be responsible for providing optimal rehabilitation services to Cirque du Soleil high performance artists, demonstrate all unifying principles of the Performance Medicine Department, deliver current professional practice and research specific to performance medicine. The ideal candidate for this position will have a team player mindset as well as the ability to handle contingencies under pressure, quickly adapt to unexpected situations and work with a variable schedule. They should have effective and timely communication skills to ensure the health and safety of all artist needs. 

 


The Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist will: 


-          Ensure the department's daily operational needs are met at the highest possible standard of professionalism, care and ethics; 

-          Comply with arrangements and agreements made between Cirque du Soleil and other medical authorities and institutions in an ethical and professional manner; 

-          Collaborate and closely communicate with Head Therapist, Artistic Direction and if needed, Manager of Performance Medicine; 

-          Adhere to optimal safety guidelines and processes within the artists’ working and performance environment; 

-          Establish interdependent relationships with the members of the artistic team while actively and professionally contributing to functional decision-making processes (Human Performance Risk Management); 



Clinical/Operational: 


-          Provide appropriate care, prevention, rehabilitation, and health care administration at the highest possible standard of care, relevant to the functional demand of artists and environment; 

-          Deliver timely and safe emergency response and care when necessary, while actively participating in maintaining/optimizing emergency preparedness of the environment. 

-          Actively collaborate in the Performance Team with Coaches and Head Therapist in establishing and implementing programs directed at the prevention of injury to achieve optimal performance, relevant to an artists’ specific needs. 

-          Collaborate with Head Therapist and Coaching Department to create channels of exchange for feedback and problem solving in regard to strength and conditioning, reintegration planning, recommendations for referrals for medical conditions (including but not limited to psychological and nutritional when appropriate) and performance support; 

-          Actively document and manage all medical information, interactions, and events as per medico-legal and CDS (Cirque du Soleil) specific requirements while upholding artist-therapist confidentiality at all times. This includes MediCirque and completion of necessary legal/insurance documents; 

-          Accompany artists to medical appointments (when indicated) for the purpose of artist/show support while ensuring all necessary legal/insurance documents are being obtained, properly communicated and filed confidentially; 

-          Inform and establish clear communication with the artist team regarding Performance Medicine recommendations for artist functional restrictions; 

-          Closely communicate with the show’s disability management or worker’s comp representative regarding insurance and necessary worker's compensation information, forms and reports;  

-          Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization;



The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: 


-          Master’s degree and eligibility for Florida's licensure in Athletic Training or Physical Therapy;

-          Valid CPR/AED certification (additional emergency medical training and certifications preferred)  

-          Minimum 4 years' relevant clinical experience (on-field/event coverage preferred); 

-          Experience working with high caliber athletes;  

-          Engagement in ongoing professional learning and development with emphasis on manual therapy techniques, exercise progression, and emergency care;  

-          Fluent in English, both written and spoken;  

-          Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire Athletic and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization;
