Dispatcher - Traffic Division

Overview

This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

 

Under general supervision, operates a two-way radio system for receiving and dispatching calls from and to City Mobile Units.

Responsibilities

  • Performs work of moderate difficulty in the receiving and referring of emergency and non-emergency calls to and from field personnel.
  • Enters into computer system information on motor vehicles relayed from field personnel to see if vehicles are eligible for impoundment and record same on ledger sheets.
  • Responsible for obtaining listings from the Registry of Motor Vehicles, stolen vehicle information, and assisting in or looking up locations for field personnel.
  • Maintains good public relations when answering calls from citizens.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • Ability to operate a radio communication system.
  • Ability to correctly interpret messages to ensure dispatching of proper information requested.
  • Ability to transmit factual information and details with accuracy.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English correctly and to enunciate clearly.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to take emergency and non-emergency telephone requests in a courteous manner.
  • Must be able to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
