Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The mission of the Professional Standards Division's Compliance Section is to ensure compliance of department policy, New York State and Federal Law as well as adhere to and ensure compliance to federally mandated use of force reporting practices. The Compliance Section strives to create relevant reports and data accessibility resources to ensure Command and Borough/Bureau level compliance.

The Professional Standards Division, Compliance Section is seeking candidates to fill the position of Crime Analyst Level I. The candidate's responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-Create and utilize spreadsheets, databases, tables, charts, and graphics to assist with routine research and recognize, identify and summarize conditions, trends and patterns of crime and member of service historical compliance.

-Assist in the maintenance of complex databases and spreadsheets through the use of several analytical programs (Cognos, Python, R, and databases)

-Create clearly written and effective reports and other analytical products to prepare multimedia presentations to display crime related data and use of force strategy in executive level briefings and conferences

-Review Body Worn Camera footage to conduct thorough investigation of compliance to force used policy related to criminal activity investigations to conduct a qualitive analysis and suggest tactical and operational reviews.

Qualifications

1. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a closely related field; and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in the analysis and/or research of data related to crime, criminals, criminal intelligence, and/or other social sciences in a police, judicial, or other criminal justice setting; or
2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a closely related field; and a Master’s degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research or a closely related field.
SPECIAL NOTE:

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, three additional years of full time qualifying experience as described in (1) above; or two years of full time qualifying experience as a Crime Analyst Assignment Level I.

SPECIAL NOTE:

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, five additional years of full time qualifying experience as described in (1) above, or two years of full time qualifying experience as a Crime Analyst Assignment Level II.
