Financial Controller - job 1 of 4

The Controller will oversee the financial operations and accounting functions of the company, ensuring strong financial control, efficient reporting, and project accounting excellence. This role will drive the financial management and strategic planning of projects, maintain accurate financial records, and implement best practices in accounting processes. The Controller will work closely with project managers, executive leadership, and external partners to support the company’s growth and operational objectives.Key Responsibilities:Financial Management & Reporting:• Oversee all general ledger and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, delivering accurate reports and insights to the executive team.• Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial close.Project Accounting:• Collaborate with project managers to oversee project budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.• Track project costs, including labor, materials, subcontractor payments, and overhead allocation.• Review and analyze project financials to assess budget variances, profitability, and financial performance.• Ensure adherence to project accounting standards and maintain accurate job cost records.NetSuite System Oversight:• Utilize NetSuite for financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and project accounting.• Maintain and enhance the NetSuite configuration for optimal use within the accounting and project management processes.• Identify and implement process improvements within NetSuite to drive automation, efficiency, and data accuracy.Cash Flow & Budgeting:• Manage cash flow projections, providing regular updates to senior leadership on cash position and liquidity needs.• Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with department heads to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.• Conduct variance analysis on budget vs. actuals and propose corrective actions to maintain fiscal discipline.Compliance & Audit:• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws, working with external tax advisors as needed.• Oversee audits, ensuring preparedness, responsiveness, and implementation of audit recommendations.• Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure reliable financial data.Leadership & Team Management:• Lead and develop a small accounting team, providing mentorship and professional growth opportunities.• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence within the finance department.• Act as a financial business partner to other departments, promoting cross-functional teamwork and knowledge sharing.Qualifications:Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.Experience:• 8+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a controller role.Technical Skills:• Proficiency in NetSuite, including project accounting and financial reporting.• Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and financial modeling.Other Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior leadership.
