At Faculty, we transform organisational performance through safe, impactful and human-centric AI.
With a decade of experience, we provide over 300 global customers with software, bespoke AI consultancy, and Fellows from our award winning Fellowship programme.
Our expert team brings together leaders from across government, academia and global tech giants to solve the biggest challenges in applied AI.
Should you join us, you’ll have the chance to work with, and learn from, some of the brilliant minds who are bringing Frontier AI to the frontlines of the world.
This role is situated within our Applied AI consultancy, which serves clients across UK Defence, Government, Life Sciences, Energy, Banking and Retail. As a Cloud Engineer, you will work in the business area where the need is greatest and this may change from time-to-time, depending on our external client requirements. We are a rapidly growing business and require all our employees to be versatile across sectors and confident to be client-facing within those.
A Cloud Engineer at Faculty help our customers by building robust, secure and scalable Cloud Infrastructure to support their data and machine learning workflows.
You’ll work as part of a cross-functional technical team to build solutions to some of the hardest problems in applied artificial intelligence. Your role will evolve alongside business needs, but you can expect your key responsibilities to include:
You’ll work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders going from idea to implementation as well as contributing to internal Cloud Engineering best practices, standards and code repos; enabling Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists to take ownership of their cloud deployments.
You’ll proactively contribute to Faculty’s growth by working with our customers to recommend how they can leverage Cloud infrastructure to solve their problems.
Be involved with the project life cycle from idea generation to shipping
Actively look out for the best open source technologies to be used in the development of Faculty's infrastructure
Create and maintain reusable libraries that are used company-wide.
At Faculty, your attitude and behaviour are just as important as your technical skill. We look for individuals who can support our values, foster our culture, and deliver for our organisation.
To succeed in this role, you'll need demonstrable experience in some of the following:
At least one of the major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
GitOps:
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform
CI/CD, for example ArgoCD, Gitlab Pipelines, CircleCI
Containerisation and deployment with Docker and Kubernetes
Networking fundamentals, IP networking, TCP, HTTP
Cloud security fundamentals: least privilege access, security groups, isolated networks
Technologies our teams use that are nice to know, but not essential: Task orchestration, ELT, Serverless, Event Streaming
Python, NodeJS or other scripting languages
We like people who combine expertise and ambition with optimism -- who are interested in changing the world for the better -- and have the drive and intelligence to make it happen. If you’re the right candidate for us, you probably:
Think scientifically, even if you’re not a scientist - you test assumptions, seek evidence and are always looking for opportunities to improve the way we do things
Love finding new ways to solve old problems - when it comes to your work and your professional development, you don’t believe in ‘good enough’. You always seek new ways to solve old challenges
Are pragmatic and outcome-focused - you know how to balance the big picture with the little details and know a great idea is useless if it can’t be executed in the real world
Have experience in working directly with clients and end users to conduct: Requirements Gathering, Technical Planning and Scoping
Have a drive to learn new technologies and novel applications of existing technologies
Technical mentoring
