Senior UI Designer

OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Senior User Interface Designer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating compelling User Interface experiences, delivering superior design solutions, and leading large projects as well as guiding other designers in the completion of their projects.Essential Functions• Creates compelling User Interface design options based on existing design languages while also being able to evolve User Interface design languages when appropriate• Exhibits thorough working knowledge of Garmin product lines and their associated technologies for projects they are assigned and general understanding across all Garmin products• Exhibits thorough understanding of competitive products/markets for projects assigned and general understanding of competitive products across all of Garmin's markets• Serves as an active contributor in concepting, mockups, researching design trends, moodboards, interactive prototypes, animating storyboards, design feasibility, presentations, and PDP concepts• Documents and catalogs icons, fonts, and other graphics in an organized manner for future use and continuity of design across Garmin product families• Able to find root cause and provide solutions for complex problems• Works under only very general direction of Creative Lead in leading their own projects• Serves as an active contributor to User Interface design reviews• Exhibits advanced knowledge of the User Interface design process resulting in improvement recommendations• Presents technical User Interface design solutions to Creative Leads, engineering, product managers, and/or user experience teams• Provides direction for product User Interface design and manages tradeoffs between engineering requirements and user experience, involving the creative lead and/or lead designer as needed• Mentors User Interface Designers (1 and 2) and Production Artists and fosters a team culture of creativity, quality, and dialog• Remains current on traditional graphics design skills, knowledge of upcoming User Interface design trends and able to help drive forward thinking design• Exhibits good knowledge of new design tools, techniques, and educates other team members on new design tools and techniquesBasic Qualifications• Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design/Visual Communication AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge• Demonstrates Expert knowledge of industry and Garmin related User Interface design standards• Demonstrates expert proficiency designing for interactive/on-screen product interface• Demonstrates strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills• Must be flexible, able to work independently or in a team in a fast-paced environment, must demonstrate strong organization skills, and have the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks• Expert knowledge of required programs: primarily Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Figma• Experience in Visual Communications or Graphic DesignDesired Qualifications• Experience in Visual Communications or Graphic DesignGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
