We are seeking a Technical Editor to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
Support the Technical Editing and Communications group, which provides multidisciplinary, full-service communications support for organizations and programs at LANL.
Be embedded within a specific Laboratory organization to provide technical editing services to subject matter experts, managers, and leaders.
Edit existing technical material and assist in document preparation.
Utilize knack for extreme detail-orientedness.
Use initiative and the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and tight turnaround times.
Requirements
Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, or a related field and 2+ years of relevant experience
Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work
Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed
Must have thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation, as well as extensive experience in technical editing and writing.
Must have demonstrated expertise in evaluating technical documents to determine the needed level and depth of edit based on multiple factors, including length, complexity, structure, and deadline.
Must have the experience performing a variety of levels of edit, ranging from basic copy to substantive editing, on highly specialized technical documents.
Must have the ability to learn and comprehend new technical concepts and terminology.
Must have excellence in written and oral communication, problem solving, and customer service and interpersonal skills.
Must have solid project management skills that allow you to effectively track and shepherd documents through the review process.
Must possess the ability to work on multiple, sometimes conflicting, deliverables and deadlines in a high-pressure work environment where priorities frequently shift.
Must have the ability to work effectively within a team and with a variety of technical personnel and managers.
Must have ability to maintain professional and courteous interactions with team members, technical personnel both inside and outside the assigned organization, and a range of managers internal and external to the Laboratory.
Must have proficient knowledge using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
Must have a solid understanding of Word styles and templates and PowerPoint-specific formatting.
Desired Skills
Experience working with highly technical documents and procedures is a plus.
LANL-specific experience or experience working in a large, complex institution or company is desirable. Experience working on large, multi-agency technical programs is also desirable.
Experience in handling sensitive and classified documents and communications would be advantageous.
