Hours: Part time, 20 hours per week (schedule includes daytime, evening and possible weekend hours)
Job Objective
To promote the mission and values of the Greene County Public Library. To carry out objectives and goals of the strategic plan to better serve the community. To perform a variety of services fornursing homes, extended care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and homebound individuals.
Essential Job Functions
- Serves as the contact person for coordinating visits to nursing homes, extended care facilities, and homebound individuals as assigned by the supervisor.
- Serves as the contact person for activity coordinators in nursing homes and extended care facilities.
- Selects materials for deposit collections for those in rehabilitation facilities.
- Selects and checks out materials for the Outreach Department using computerized system; registers borrowers.
- Promotes services to nursing homes, senior citizen centers, and other care facilities within the county.
- Plans, designs, and delivers programs to serve homebound individuals.
- Identifies community information needs and suggests materials and services to meet them.
- Cross-trained to back-up the processing and distribution of mail as needed.
- Attends conferences, workshops, seminars, and training to maintain knowledge as reflected in training curriculum.
- Keeps abreast of information by regularly reading email, minutes and staff website as well as attending staff meetings.
- Reliable predictable attendance.
- Performs tasks of lower level classifications as necessary.
- The supervisor may require other related duties. These duties are nonessential functions of this position.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Ability to provide knowledgeable customer service to assist all library patrons in a timely manner; show tact and courtesy in relations with the public and other staff members.
- Knowledge of library principles, methods, techniques, and procedures.
- Knowledge of reader interests and levels.
- Ability to communicate clearly and read printed and on-screen information.
- Proven knowledge of computer applications for libraries and keyboard skills required. Proficiency in spreadsheets and word processing required.
- Ability to handle and solve routine problems under minimal supervision or with the guidance from supervisor, and keep supervisor informed of departmental needs and concerns.
Qualifications
- Outreach Librarian II- Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited school required. 1-3 years of Library and/or Customer Service experience strongly preferred.
- Outreach Librarian I- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. 1-3 years of Library and/or Customer Service experience strongly preferred.
- Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License and meet requirements for driver insurability, as verified through the Library’s Insurance Company. Ability to operate Library-owned vehicle safely and operate personal car if needed.
- Must be able to attend and successfully complete defensive driving training course.
Environmental Conditions
- Work is performed in an office like environment and in the community, with need for considerable mobility: standing, walking, light to heavy lifting, bending and stooping.
- Extensive travel to nursing homes, extended care facilities, and homebound individuals, in various weather conditions, while ensuring safe operation of the vehicle.
- Employee schedule may be altered depending on the needs of the library.
