The Head of Sustainability is responsible for ensuring the impact we are facilitating for others externally as well as our operations as a company internally are held to the highest standard of measurable impact. Climate Club is seeking exceptional sustainability-focused talent that is profoundly committed to helping enterprise companies make major shifts to address climate change, who can create and scale high growth products while helping cultivate a dynamic, remote company culture.
Responsibilities
You primary responsibilities fall into four distinct areas:
1. Market Development and Customer Acquisition
- Segment the market into customer type based on needs and Climate Club’s product offering
- Network with peers and leverage sustainability community ties to cultivate a prospect list with high quality customers and fill the customer acquisition funnel
- Create an ecosystem map based on customer feedback to diagnose who the key decision makers and single threaded project owners would be with the prospective client
- Leverage thought leadership and experience to assist the Customer Acquisition team when closing a potential deal
- Review and finalize the client proposal with Legal
2. Customer Value Creation & Relationship Management
- Partner with the customer to develop a sustainability roadmap in an effort to support a corporate sustainability transformation (strategy, people, process, technology)
- Strategy: Provide the “why” for integrating stronger sustainability and climate related initiatives
- Strategy: Identify, prioritize and sequence carbon reducing projects to achieve a stated goal
- People: Aid in the hiring of subject matter experts for carbon emissions and reduction strategies
- Identify candidates who not only have a sustainability background but also can influence internal functions associated with the achievement of stated climate goals
- Support a search for internal candidates with the necessary traits and some capacity to transition into a formal sustainability role
- Provide a job description template to recruit external talent
- Suggest organizations or networks who could produce promising candidates
- People: Highlight key stakeholders across the organization that will need to actively participate in a climate-related solution in order to drive real results
- Process: Propose a methodology to create the proper climate-related mindshift from the executive/board level down through management
- Technology: Drive company-wide engagement, leveraging Climate Club SaaS solutions to increase awareness, company sustainability goals along with milestones achieved.
- Technology: Centralize climate related data and resources, and crowdsource new internal ways of driving reductions
- Elevate the customer experience through thought leadership and consultative strategic support
- Identify Win, Win opportunities and shorten the timeline to achieve valuable, total cost ROI scenarios
- Carbon reduction projects that enhance long-term bottom-line profit
- Marketable climate improvements with modest financial investments
- Develop a Center of Excellence
- Create training tools and documents for Climate Club SaaS users
- ESG frameworks and standards guidance
- Measure & Report Progress
- Develop a suite of customer-facing dashboards and templates
- Advise sustainability communications/PR strategies, templates, and language and aid in the quantification of the associated risks of the communication
- Share ESG Library of external resources & a news feed via the Climate Club website
3. SaaS Product Design & Enhancement Support:
- Embed the Climate Club platform with sustainability attributes integrated throughout
- Design optimal products through the lens of the customer
- Help the Product Team drive tight requirements, project scope, and prioritized deliverables. Scrutinize the details and decisions made around customer value, sequencing of priorities, and integration of systems
- Combine subject matter expertise with customer feedback to inform MVPs, product roadmap and future product enhancements
- Intake activity based and emissions related data and create failsafes to accurately display the data on customer facing dashboards, understanding that the data will be used for decision making purposes
- Benchmark best in class products with sustainability attributes via research in order to enhance Climate Club’s product offering
4. Internal Sustainability Leadership:
- Propose all company objectives and goals related to sustainability and climate. Own the monitoring and management of sustainability related projects
- Design the structure and coordinate the internal team required to work with and deliver:
- ESG claims that have been properly vetted by Legal and Communications
- ESG reporting, starting with an initial internal deliverable through to a future external copy
- Responses and assurances to the board and investor community
- Utilize the internal organization to not only create an Innovation funnel that supports Climate Club’s sustainability needs but also to influence SaaS product design. Items to shape and lead include:
- Track employee activities that drive sustainability wins, connect everyone to the company mission, and boost morale
- Write a comprehensive Climate Policy
- Document operational success stories that can be replicated in other parts of the organization
- Train and develop sustainability partners in every function of the organization to build a “Green Team”
