Job Description

This position is contingent upon award of contract.

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program.  The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide services outlined below: 

International SOS is looking for an individual who is an experienced Gastroenterology Registered Nurse to provide specialized nursing care for patients with gastrointestinal disorders, facilitating assessments, treatments, and education to promote effective disease management and improve patient quality of life. This role involves collaborating with gastroenterologists and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans and support patients throughout their diagnostic and therapeutic journeys.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients with gastrointestinal disorders, including obtaining medical histories and evaluating symptoms related to digestive health. 
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments, such as intravenous therapies and medication for nausea, while monitoring patients for therapeutic responses and side effects. 
  • Support gastroenterologists during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as endoscopies and colonoscopies, by preparing equipment and ensuring patient comfort and safety. 
  • Educate patients and their families on gastrointestinal health issues, including dietary modifications, symptom management, and preparation for procedures. 
  • Collaborate with gastroenterologists and other healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s needs. 
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of patient assessments, interventions, treatment responses, and follow-up care in accordance with healthcare regulations. 
  • Manage follow-up appointments and communications, ensuring that patients understand their treatment plans and checking on their progress. 

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:  

  • Three (3) years current experience as a Gastroenterology nurse or equivalent specialty.  
  • Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.  
  • National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to obtain a nursing license.  
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.  
  • Certification from the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) preferred. 

Education Required: 

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or  
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. 
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. 
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 25 lbs. 

Other Special Qualifications: 

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate. 
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required. 
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance. 

Additional Information

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data. 

Compensation|  Min: $35hr        Max: $44hr
