In 2012, Lambda started with a crew of AI engineers publishing research at top machine-learning conferences. We began as an AI company built by AI engineers. That hasn't changed. Today, we're on a mission to be the world's top AI computing platform. We equip engineers with the tools to deploy AI that is fast, secure, affordable, and built to scale. Whether they need powerhouse GPU hardware on-site or the flexibility of cloud-based solutions, we've got the horsepower to make it happen. Lambda’s AI Cloud has been adopted by the world’s leading companies and research institutions including Anyscale, Rakuten, The AI Institute, and multiple enterprises with over a trillion dollars of market capitalization. Our goal is to make computation as effortless and ubiquitous as electricity.
If you'd like to build the world's best deep learning cloud, join us.
*Note: This position requires presence in our San Francisco office location 4 days per week; Lambda’s designated work from home day is currently Tuesday.
Overview
We’re looking for a well-rounded engineer who can straddle both DevOps and Software Engineering. You’ll join the Operations team to design and build software solutions that automate data center operations, streamline customer support workflows, and integrate tooling within our broader infrastructure. This role requires hands-on experience with modern backend development and DevOps practices. You’ll have the chance to work on everything from backend APIs to infrastructure automation and beyond.
What You’ll Do
Architect & Develop Software: Design, build, and maintain software and APIs (e.g., Python/FastAPI/Django, TypeScript/React) to automate operational workflows.
Infrastructure & Tooling: Create and manage CI/CD pipelines, implement monitoring/alerting (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana), and integrate tools like NetBox, Jira, or Terraform.
Process & Workflow Automation: Identify manual bottlenecks in data center operations or customer support processes, then create solutions—from dashboards to auto-remediation tools.
Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, design solutions, and deliver features incrementally.
Mentorship & Leadership: Act as a technical leader/mentor to DevOps or Software Engineers on the team, guiding best practices and high-quality code.
What We’re Looking For
Hybrid Expertise: 5+ years of combined DevOps and Software Engineering experience.
Backend Focus: Deep experience building APIs from the ground up, with frameworks like FastAPI or Django.
ORM & Database Experience: Proficiency working with relational databases (e.g., Postgres) and ORMs.
DevOps Skill Set: Comfortable with Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD tools, and monitoring solutions; proven history of automating infrastructure tasks and workflows.
Hands-On Programming: Strong proficiency in Python, with some exposure to TypeScript/React for front-end needs.
Ownership & Accountability: Demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and deliver complex projects in an agile, outcome-focused environment.
Commitment & Focus on Delivering End User Outcomes: Demonstrated history of delivering results for end users and improvements in efficiency, not just backend / orchestration environments.
Nice To Haves
Machine Learning Exposure: Familiarity with AI-driven workflows or ML frameworks, as we see this being increasingly important.
Ops Tooling: Experience integrating with or automating NetBox, Zendesk, SalesForce, and Atlassian products.
Leadership Experience: Comfort leading small teams or mentoring junior engineers.
AWS Experience: Background in AWS services for deployment and infrastructure.
Why Join Us?
Impactful Work: Help shape the automation strategy for data center operations and customer support.
Startup Culture: We value ownership, low-ego collaboration, and a “get it done” mindset.
Growth & Mentorship: Opportunity to lead initiatives, mentor others, and grow your skill set across the entire stack.
If you’re excited about bridging the worlds of software development and DevOps to drive operational excellence, we’d love to hear from you!
