The Role

This is a hybrid role which will combine remote working with site presence in client projects.

Purpose of the role

You will be helping to plan some of the most complex and interesting projects in the world.

Team

This role is part of our Planning team which focuses on:

- Understanding what the real problems of projects are

- Implementing the best solutions to those problems

- Developing scalable best practices, tools and technology

More specifically you will be part of our Project Planning Discipline Team who are industry leaders in the planning of complex construction projects. Your initial leader will be one of our planning discipline directors.

Your top 3 objectives:

1. To make construction projects deliver to near perfection

2. To create scalable and repeatable solutions to common problems

3. To develop yourself and everyone around you

Your top 5 responsibilities:

1. Own the plan: Own the project plan for one or more projects and ensure that the project is working to it effectively. Ensure delays are mitigated and managed commercially.

2. Own the outcome: You may not be the project manager ultimately responsible for the results but you are sure as heck responsible for putting in your best effort to ensure the project’s understanding and focus on the plan no matter how stubborn they are!

3. Report and inform: Provide simple actionable reports to stakeholders at all levels that help them deliver their part of the project more efficiently and effectively.

4. Make scalable solutions: Develop scalable and repeatable best practices and tools in collaboration with the team so that long-term impact is achieved.

5. Develop everyone: Maximise the development of your team personally and professionally and educate our clients to improve as well. (even if you are junior you can help your leader develop too!)

Your Capabilities:

We train you in the full breadth of project management skills including planning, commercial, leadership, communication and technology so that you become an expert project leader equipped to transform any project you touch.

Must-Have (The fundamentals)

- Mastery: Construction engineering background with at least 2+ years of experience on construction projects

- Communication: Proficient communicator in written and verbal English

- Leadership: You lead yourself proactively and lead others by asking the right questions and challenging them

- Impact: A track record of making projects and organisations better beyond just doing the basics

Nice to Have (If you don’t have it now you will be trained intensively after joining)

- Mastery: Decent Excel skills and a strong interest in data, experience in project planning both software and principles

- Communication: The charisma, influence and presence to get construction people to do new things and take the best approach

- Leadership: A proven leader/coach/developer of teams or teams of teams

- Impact: A track record of implementing scalable and repeatable solutions in projects and organisations that had a significant positive impact

Laminar isn’t the place for you if any of the following is true:

- You want an easy, chilled-out role without much challenge

- You like to be the smartest person in the room

- You don’t like continuously receiving honest candid feedback

- You prefer to do your own thing rather than work with a team

At Laminar we value diverse experiences and perspectives, empowering each member to contribute their unique expertise towards our collective success, so if you don’t think you meet all the criteria but still are excited about this role we encourage you to apply anyways!

Standard Stuff

- Competitive salary dependent on location and capability

- Private health insurance

- In-House Coaching Sessions

- Discretionary bonus scheme for all team members.

The Life-Changing Stuff

- Flexibility: Getting things done is what really matters, not what time of day you do it. That means you don’t have to ask permission for things like picking up your kids or going to the doctor, just keep your team in the loop if you think they will be affected.

- Grow your whole self: Our leaders are more like coaches and one of our main objectives is to give 5 years’ worth of learning and development for every 1 year with us. You have a coach, mentor, well-being therapist and a development-orientated environment: That’s literally what our vision is all about and the primary reason Laminar exists.

- Be surrounded by the best: We only hire and retain the very best people. You might be used to being the smartest in the room but that won’t be the case in Laminar. You will be surrounded by people you can learn from. We are 100% meritocratic so fast progression is the norm. You will be supported to excel in whichever areas you are most interested in! With Laminar, development is unbounded.
