At Matter Labs, we believe freedom drives progress and prosperity. We don’t see ourselves as a company, but as a team aligned around a single mission: to advance personal freedom for all (see ZK Credo).
To achieve this goal, we’re building zkSync — a credibly neutral, fully open source technology stack and network on top of Ethereum, which is owned and governed by its community. We use advanced cryptography called zero-knowledge proofs to scale Ethereum infinitely without compromising on security or decentralization. With a world-class team, a community of over 1M supporters across Twitter + Discord, and hundreds of millions $ in funding, we have abundant resources to accomplish the mission.
We’re looking for a Senior Accountant/Controller to take ownership of our accounting operations and drive excellence in financial reporting and compliance. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Legal, and Operations, to manage complex transactions, for fiat, crypto and token-based transactions, and ensure seamless financial processes across multiple jurisdictions.
This role requires a seasoned professional who can balance hands-on accounting with strategic oversight. You will bring a meticulous, detail-oriented approach to managing month-end close, audit preparation, and internal controls, ensuring that our financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant with regulatory standards.
This is an ideal role for someone who thrives in a fast paced, high-growth environment, can work independently, and is passionate about streamlining accounting processes. With a focus on integrity, accuracy, and proactive problem-solving, you’ll play a key role in building and enhancing our finance infrastructure as we scale. This role is full-time, with a strong preference for candidates located in the UK or EU.
What You'll Be Doing
Oversee Accounting and Financial Reporting: Lead financial reporting efforts in line with GAAP/IFRS compliance, managing month-end close, account reconciliations, and journal entries. Apply your expertise in multi-currency, multi-jurisdictional transactions to ensure accurate and compliant reporting.
Review and Finalize Journal Entries: Review, and approve journal entries related to revenue, expenses, in fiat and crypto, and token-based activity, maintaining precise and well-documented records.
Token Accounting and RTU Management: Manage accounting for token transactions, including Restricted Token Units (RTU) tracking and preparing for token unlock events, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory standards.
Audit and Compliance: Coordinate annual audits, implement financial controls, and uphold tax and regulatory compliance across the US, EU, and other regions. Draw on your background in financial reporting and audit coordination to maintain accuracy and integrity.
Systems and Process Optimization: Manage financial systems, identify process improvements, and enhance data management and reporting. Your experience in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills will drive efficiency.
Financial Planning and Analysis Support: Collaborate with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, leveraging your ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly and contribute to strategic initiatives.
What We Look For in You
Experience: 6+ years in accounting, with hands-on experience in financial reporting, audit preparation, and general ledger management. Experience in technology or blockchain industries is a plus.
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; CPA or CA certification is a must.
Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS standards and experience with multi-jurisdictional compliance, particularly relevant for US and EU markets.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting, enabling efficient financial operations.
Attention to Detail & Ownership: A high level of attention to detail, an ownership mindset, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, especially suited for a startup environment.
Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex financial matters clearly. Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
