Medical Coding, Team Lead

Nashville General Hospital is hiring for a Medical Coding Team Lead for Health Information Services as a full-time job in Nashville, Tennessee.    

Shift: Day Shift

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, in-depth knowledge of medical coding guidelines and regulations and exceptional skills. As the team lead, you will play a vital role in maintaining compliance, optimizing coding processes and fostering a collaborative team effort.

Medical Coding Team Lead  Roles and Responsibilities:
     

  • Lead and supervise a team of medical coders, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Review and assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to patient records in accordance with coding guidelines and regulations.
  • Under the direction of the Coding Manager, conduct regular quality audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with coding standards and organizational policies.
  • Assist the Coding Manager in developing and implementing strategies to optimize coding efficiency and productivity while maintaining accuracy.
  • In conjunction with the Coding Manager monitor coding productivity metrics and performance indicators, providing feedback and implementing corrective action, as necessary.
  • Enforce coding policies, procedures, and workflows to standardize coding practices and optimize coding efficiency.
  • Function as a liaison between the coding team, other departments, healthcare providers, and clinicians to resolve coding-related queries and facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  • Assist in the review and resolution of billing edits generated from the billing system.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
    • License/Certification: Must possess coding certification from AAPC/AHIMA
    • Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in medical coding, with demonstrated proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
    • Proficiencies:
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex coding scenarios, resolve coding- related issues, and optimize revenue cycle performance.
    • Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role, with strong interpersonal and team management skills.
    • Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and policy compliance issues related to medical coding and billing procedures, and documentation including CMS guidelines.
    • Proficient computer skills using MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems including Paragon, eClinical Works, Optum Computer Assisted Coding (CAC) and others.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
