ProPublica is on the lookout for a passionate Southwest Reporter to join our dynamic newsroom in Phoenix, Arizona! If you're an ambitious journalist with a knack for investigative storytelling, this role might be tailored just for you. We are dedicated to producing impactful stories with national significance, all rooted in the rich narratives of the Southwest. Your assignments will range from uncovering inequities in local government programs, like Arizona’s school voucher system, to shining a light on Indigenous rights and environmental issues that matter to our communities. Your focus will be on Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah, as we tackle stories that hold powerful institutions accountable. Ideally, you have at least five years of experience producing compelling investigative pieces, and you’ve got the chops for nuanced storytelling and data digging. We’re eager for a team player who thrives in collaboration, whether it’s brainstorming with fellow reporters or partnering with other organizations to amplify our findings. This full-time position offers a competitive salary between $90,000 and $130,000, and we believe in equitable pay based on experience and location.
