Who We Are

Decent is on a mission to deliver affordable health insurance for all. We help small businesses (2-100 employees) band together in a large group PEO and do their payroll, so we can save them 35% on their health insurance. We're servicing a huge market need for affordable and delightful health insurance (79 NPS vs. industry average of 19), and all of our plans include unlimited primary care via the direct primary care (DPC) model. We sell both direct and through brokers and have partnered with national broker distributors like BenefitMall and OneDigital (25K brokers) to offer the world's first integrated health plan + PEO. We set ambitious goals around team NPS and believe building and maintaining a strong positive culture is the key force multiplier in everything we do.

Who You Are

We are looking for an entrepreneurial lawyer with deep regulatory expertise. A successful regulatory counsel will be able to leverage existing knowledge of the health insurance and Professional Employer Organization (PEO) laws and regulations into practical advice for the Decent leadership team. This role reports to Decent’s General Counsel.

You are welcome to work remotely, but we are limiting our search to candidates who are or who have been based in Texas due to the intricacies of state-specific health insurance law.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Advising on large employer health plan, Third Party Administrator (TPA), and PEO regulations at both the state and federal level
  • Acting as the primary point of contact with all state and federal regulators
  • Maintaining all annual and quarterly filings for all regulated entities
  • Advising health plan team on compliance of health plan documents and upcoming
  • regulatory changes
  • Manage state and federal outside regulatory counsel
  • Work closely with compliance team to develop compliant processes and policies

What We’re Looking For

  • Law degree and active bar admission with any U.S. state (Texas preferred) with at least 6+ years of experience
  • At least 3 years of experience working at or with a health plan, TPA, PEO, or other regulated entity in the health insurance space
  • Ability to work cross functionally with all levels of the organization
  • Excels at independent, self-guided work as well as collaborative work within a team
  • Project management skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate multiple demands
  • simultaneously
  • Process gap analysis and solution deployment for complex challenges
  • Exercises resourcefulness when creating operational excellence
  • Effective compliance/legal/regulatory administration and people management skills
  • Consultative approach and the ability to influence internal clients through trust and
  • professionalism
  • Understanding of compliance/legal/regulatory functions and best practices and have the
  • ability to create solutions within a variety of traditional and emerging insurance models
  • Strong analytical ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly computer literate with ability to learn new software quickly
  • Meticulous attention to detail
