Save My Exams is a rapidly growing EdTech business on the lookout for an ambitious Lead Product Designer.

Reaching up to 2.7 million monthly active users and on our way to 120,000 paying members, all while being bootstrapped and profitable, we’re looking for an ambitious Lead Product Designer to join our team and take our product to the next level.

The Role

As Lead Product Designer you will play both a key strategic and delivery role. As an expert in your field, you will raise the bar for customer-centric design and research across our entire product team. You will champion design thinking and collaborate with Save My Exams’ leadership to define, influence, and build support for long and short term product strategy.

Working within a learner-facing squad as a hands-on designer, you will lead by example, helping to inspire and develop our growing design team by championing team culture, setting design best practice and challenging others' thinking to ensure the most effective outcome for our learners and teachers. You will plan, design and develop the experience of new products and features, developing and honing existing flows with the aim of creating a learning experience that will inspire and develop our learners to achieve the best possible grades in their exams. 

In collaboration with product managers, designers, marketing professionals, engineers and content experts, you will help to lead projects across the entire product lifecycle and multiple product launches, setting the vision for the learning experience.

Your responsibilities

  1. Design leadership:
    • Lead & grow the design function within Save My Exams i.e. people, product & processes.
    • Contribute strategic thinking to the overall product vision and long term roadmap.
    • Foster culture and togetherness through the product organisation for a happy and productive environment. 
  2. Best in class product design :
    • Deeply understanding our users through continuous gathering of customer insights through qualitative & quantitative analysis.
    • Own the problem space with an unwavering focus on high-impact outcomes.
    • Manage the full design cycle from creating initial prototypes to producing best-in-class UX and UI designs.
    • Use customer feedback to quickly iterate on prototypes and come up with the best solution.
    • Ensure that the final designs are responsive, on-brand, and deliver an exceptional experience for our users while driving business outcomes.
  3. Defining and owning our visual identity across all aspects of the brand:
    • Own the design system and work collaboratively with engineering to ensure quality, accessible, scalable designs
    • Providing guidance and leadership across product and marketing for consistent messaging and positioning.
  • 6+ years experience working as an end-to-end Product Designer ideally as part of a product trio alongside a Product Manager and Engineering Manager 
  • 2+ years experience managing and/or mentoring other designers
  • Experienced in gathering customer insights; both qualitative and quantitative
  • Strong understanding of both user experience & visual design best practices
  • In-depth knowledge of design & prototyping tools
  • A commercial mindset that combines achieving critical business outcomes with creating an exceptional user experience
  • Motivated by being a key stakeholder in a small but rapidly growing business, with full ownership of the design process

  • Competitive annual salary of £83,000 - £95,000 depending on experience & skills 
  • 36 days of annual leave, this includes the UK bank holidays but you can take them whenever suits you

  • Flexible working hours: We don’t expect (or want) you to spend every waking hour at work. Our general working hours are 9-6pm, however we have a company-wide principle around Core Hours, which is 10-4pm and you can work at times that suit you and your team
  • Remote working: we’re UK-based, and you’re free to work remotely or join us in our London office. For this role, we’d love someone who can regularly join us in London for in-person collaborative sessions.
  • A people-first culture - we’re driven to work hard but we also have fun, with weekly virtual fitness classes and whole company coffee coolers, as well as bi-annual get-togethers in person.

This will include the opportunity to walk our team through a project from your portfolio that you’re particularly proud of that shows off your design thinking
