Software Release Train Engineer

Riverside Research is an independent National Security Nonprofit dedicated to research and development in the national interest. We provide high-end technical services, research and development, and prototype solutions to some of the country's most challenging technical problems.

Riverside Research is seeking a full-time experienced and passionate software release train engineer (RTE) to support our Software Applications Team (SWAT). As an RTE, you are a servant leader and agile release train (ART) coach who facilitates ART events and processes and supports teams in delivering value. You will be responsible for ensuring products can effortlessly be delivered to users using different distribution mechanism and methods. Experience with SAFe and Scrum, as well as familiarity with continuous integration/continuous testing/continuous delivery processes and tools, is essential. Candidates must be technically proficient and have real-word experience.

The SWAT is an innovative team of experienced software developers, engineers, and architects who rapidly design, develop, build, and deploy valuable (i.e., useful, usable, used) software applications and services. Team members are experienced in a multitude of languages, libraries, frameworks, off-the-shelf products, environments, processes, and policies. The SWAT addresses market demand through the proven practices of Design Thinking, Lean Startup, and Agile Software Development, and we often develop prototype applications in days versus weeks and months. Our focus is on rapidly delivering valuable and desirable solutions to our customers. As the SWAT's RTE, your job is critical to the team's success by ensuring continuous and seamless deployment of these solutions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain an integrated, enterprise-wide ART
  • Build and maintain an integrated, enterprise-wide release calendar
  • Provide support to ART practices and PI Planning activities
  • Create and maintain product release and roadmap artifacts and templates
  • Assist in PI execution during the program increment (PI)
  • Provide release train, product roadmap coaching to product teams and specifically product owners (enablement activities)
  • Help orchestrate product integration with an emphasis on providing proactive identification and resolution of product dependencies and conflicts

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI adjudication
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related field of study
  • 5 years of experience as a Release Engineer
  • 10 years of experience in command line environment (Bash)
  • 10 years of experience with or on Linux or Unix based OS systems using common UNIX/Linux tools (ssh, tar, sed, grep, awk, vi, emacs, cron, etc...)
  • 5 years of experience with build systems and maintaining tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, etc.
  • 5 years of experience with source control management systems
  • Experience with Docker
  • Experience working on deployment environments including virtual machines
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible team player able to work independently with minimal daily direction; effective/efficient written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work and interact with technically and organizationally diverse personnel
  • Experience with Python or similar languages

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or other related field of study
  • Experience writing Helm Charts and using container orchestration applications including Kubernetes
  • Experience with Docker Compose
  • Experience managing and maintaining Linux servers
  • Experience working/developing in multi-domain, multi-cloud, hybrid-cloud environments
  • Experience deploying applications on SIPRNet and JWICS
  • Experience working with cloud environments like AWS and/or Azure
  • Scrum training/certification from Scrum Alliance
  • Security+ training/certification CompTIA
