Product Manager (Remote)
Full-Time, Remote / Salary, Exempt / Includes Benefits, PTO, Flexible Schedule, Equity
Steno is growing and we’re looking for a Product Manager to join our winning team which is revolutionizing the court reporting industry every single day. We’re a diverse team from all over the country (and beyond), and we’re crazy about redefining the boundaries of an outdated industry.
In this role, you’ll help lead the charge on generative AI and drive development for multiple products that impact all teams at Steno, as well as our providers and clients.
Who are you?
We’re looking for a technically-minded, detail-oriented problem solver who thrives on tackling complex challenges and delivering innovative solutions. In this role, you’ll take ownership of Transcript Genius, our groundbreaking AI tool, while playing a pivotal role in identifying and implementing generative AI tech across our product lineup to drive efficiency and shape the future of our offerings.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and self-starter who excels at bringing structure to ambiguity - able to transform unclear problems into actionable plans and execute against them efficiently. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are a must, as is a hospitality mindset that enables you to collaborate effectively and maintain poise under pressure. If you're passionate about developing AI products that meaningfully improve how people work, this is the role for you!
This is an incredible opportunity to join a growing tech team at a mid-stage startup with proven product-market fit. Ideal for someone who is eager to make a direct impact, this role offers the chance to build and enhance cutting-edge products that revolutionize the way work gets done in the legal tech space.
About Product Development at Steno & Transcript Genius:
At Steno, we develop products by first deeply understanding our users' pain points - it's core to our DNA and has driven our success. So when generative AI gained momentum, we didn't rush to add an AI chatbot just to check a box for our sales team. Instead, we followed our principles: thorough user research, precise problem definition, and thoughtful solution design.
This process led to Transcript Genius, a powerful AI tool that solves real challenges in the litigation process. Its rapid adoption validates our approach: solving real problems through careful AI implementation rather than chasing trends.
As the Product Manager for Transcript Genius, you'll drive both its AI capabilities and overall product experience forward, identifying new opportunities to meaningfully improve the litigation process while maintaining our high bar for solving real problems that deliver concrete value to our users.
On a regular basis, you will:
- Lead the discovery, development, and delivery of features within Transcript Genius and other product areas where AI can be leveraged to deliver user value and drive business outcomes.
- Collaborate with the VP of Product to define and maintain a long-term vision for the Transcript Genius product.
- Create and maintain product roadmaps that align with our product vision and Steno's company-wide strategic goals.
- Partner with other Product Managers to identify cross-squad AI/LLM implementation opportunities.
- Build deep understanding of users (primarily law firms, attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants) through user research, interviews, usability testing, surveys, and collaboration with sales and customer success teams.
- Perform independent data analysis using SQL and BI tools to test hypotheses and solve complex problems.
- Analyze and develop key metrics to guide feature ideation, prioritize roadmaps, and measure feature success.
- Analyze internal workflows to identify scaling challenges, then design and implement AI solutions that meaningfully improve team efficiency and operational capacity.
- Transform high-level product opportunities ("we could use AI here" or “let’s build an export feature”) into comprehensive technical solutions by mapping out detailed workflows, identifying all use cases and edge cases, specifying exactly how the product will function in each scenario, and clearly defining what problems will and won't be solved.
- Write detailed user stories and technical specifications for new features.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, QA teams, and stakeholders to ensure successful feature development.
- Negotiate trade-offs and adjust scope while maintaining momentum through incremental delivery.
- Trace and resolve user issues through technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Work closely with product marketing to craft launch strategies, refine messaging, and ensure technical accuracy of marketing content.
- Write and maintain comprehensive release notes and documentation for both internal teams and external users.
- Develop and execute feature rollout plans to drive successful adoption.
- Manage both complex multi-phase projects and quick-win initiatives within your squad's product scope.
You’re gonna crush it if:
- You have 5+ years of experience in product management.
- You have 2+ years of experience managing the complete product lifecycle, from vision creation and strategic roadmapping through development and post-launch optimization.
- Proven experience developing products that leverage AI technologies is essential.
- Expertise in working with generative AI, including crafting effective prompts, designing system prompts, testing responses, and evaluating their accuracy and quality using quantitative methods.
- Deep familiarity and hands-on experience using generative AI tools in your daily work
- You have experience seeing projects through to timely completion in an agile environment
- You have strong prioritization and project management skills, including timely and proactive communication with cross-functional teams.
- You know how to write SQL queries and understand relational database schemas.
- You are a self-starter who thrives in remote, fast-paced environments with a "can-do" attitude.
- You understand data and have experience with user analytics tools like Mixpanel to generate meaningful insights and product KPIs.
- You're comfortable creating low-fi UI/UX mockups and prototypes using design tools like Figma.
- You are highly reliable, attentive, detail-oriented, and organized.
- You excel at bringing clarity to ambiguity - taking undefined problems and turning them into structured plans that you can efficiently execute against..
