Casting Associate

The Casting Associate is an independent contractor position. They will assist the Casting Director in planning and posting casting calls, reviewing submissions, booking actors, and drafting contracts, so that The Merry Beggars can cast top notch talent for our multi-award winning family entertainment audio drama series. 

This role requires someone who is detail oriented, efficient, organized, analytical, creative, and mission aligned. Communication skills are a must. The Casting Associate will work closely with the Casting Director, following an outlined process for developing casting plots, posting casting calls to our website and to third-party casting sites, and assisting with audition review. Experience working in entertainment, media, or theatre is preferred, along with experience in casting or directing. Knowledge and experience in some area of voice acting or VO production is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Read all scripts for casting
  • Develop Casting Plots detailing necessary information about every character being cast
  • Organize and post casting calls to third-party casting sites (Backstage, Actors Access, etc) and to our website.
  • Assist Casting Director in reviewing auditions based on the following criteria: talent, quality of audition, suitability to the role, professional experience, etc. 
  • Communicate offers to talent
  • Draft and send employment contracts to talent and agencies
  • Maintain and foster excellent relationships between TMB, talent and talent agencies
  • Maintain TMB’s Talent database (Airtable)
  • Aid Casting Director, Audio Drama Director(s) and Creative Producer with any additional needs that may arise regarding casting, such as drafting emails, advertising casting calls, communicating with talent and agencies, etc.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate

  • Keen eye/ear for recognising talent
  • Experience with media/entertainment/theatre production a plus
  • Knowledge and/or experience with acting, directing, performing a plus
  • Knowledge and experience in audio production, voice acting, etc. 
  • Experience and/or comfort with learning software platforms (Slack, Zoom, Google Docs, Adobe Acrobat, Email, third-party casting sites, AirTable)
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and mission-aligned 
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in an exciting, high-pressure environment
  • Match TMB values (described above)

Compensation and Hours:

  • Pay: Commensurate with experience, $17 - $30 per hour
  • Hours: up to 35 hours/week
  • Duration: 8-12 weeks, March - June 2025
