Position Summary
Transplant Center Clinical Assistant is an unlicensed individual who is trained in the additional specialized needs of the transplant patient to assists the Transplant Clinical Coordinator in carrying out supportive services for the management of the transplant candidate, recipient and living donor.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Schedules patient appointments, reinforces purpose of procedure and relevance to transplant status. Initiates scheduling of tests/procedures during or immediately after clinic visit based on program protocol.
- Generates Transplant Specific Medical Records, identifies key documents required for regulatory compliance review, identifies missing documents, and alerts Clinical Manager in real time.
- Prepares Transplant Specific documentation tools, informed consent documents, current SRTR data set, deceased donor organ acceptance criteria consents, and patient education materials for patient encounter based on organ type, candidate or recipient or living donor.
- Has knowledge and understanding of the standard evaluation for transplant or living donation or post-transplant follow-up tests and procedures, and independently initiates f/u on these results, compiling the records for review by the Transplant Clinical Coordinator.
- Assists the Transplant Clinical Coordinator in preparing patients and living donors for presentation to the organ specific listing committee, collecting, collating and organizing the medical records and key information in pre-defined format to comply with UNOS and CMS regulatory requirements.
- Triages patient and family calls, consulting department calls and prioritizes for the Transplant Clinical Coordinator and independently researches and presents identified information to the callers within the scope of their role.
- Generates template letters, identifying sequence of form letter following department protocols to maintain communication with dialysis units, referring MD's, physician specialists, and patients.
- Copies, faxes, compiles documents as per protocol or as requested.
- Assumes responsibility for improving and maintaining current level of skills and knowledge including attending patient listing meeting and multidisciplinary meetings, educational offerings and self directed reading.
- Is responsible for initiating actions based on department protocol specific to a transplant phase or organ type, based on progress of a patient through the transplant process and directly supports and assists the Transplant Clinical Coordinator in the management of patients.
- Communicates with patients, living donors, referring physicians, dialysis unit staff, insurance carriers and other entities who interact with the transplant department on a daily basis displaying a knowledge and understanding of the uniqueness of the transplant patient and the transplant process.

Education
High School diploma is required.
Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Prefer 3+ years of Administrative/ Clerical or Front Desk experience in a clinical or office setting.
