Company Description

Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.

Job Description

The Materials Manager is responsible for enterprise-wide supply distribution and managing the receiving and delivery processes. Is responsible for the supervision and oversight of human resource management and financial management in designated areas of responsibility.

Principal Duties:

  1. Develops appropriate supply chain strategy to maximize customer satisfaction at the lowest possible cost.
  2. Leads the supply chain team in executing best practices and measuring performance through agreed upon Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  3. Plans, manages, and coordinates all activities related to the sourcing and procurement of necessary materials and supplies needed to meet the changing levels of product demand.
  4. Works directly with the procurement department to determine most cost-effective distribution solution for finished goods transportation to customers.
  5. Monitors and corrects inventory level at all UM Cap Region warehouses and PAR locations
  6. Collaborates with procurement department to determine best practice for freight in and freight consolidation.
  7. Supports proper utilization of MMIS and Scrub Management system. Responsible to routinely report on department KPIs along with appropriate analysis and countermeasures where necessary.
  8. Manages Operating Room (OR) Supply Team assigned to inventory and purchase materials and other supplies for all Surgical Sites within Capital Region (Prince George’s, Laurel, Bowie).
  9. Collaborates with other OR managers within the organization to determine supply needs. 
  10. Interfaces with product line coordinators on the planning and forecasting of procedures to meet surgical supply needs.
  11. Manages the delivery and receiving procedures for OR supplies.
  12. Establishes procedures and manages the annual physical inventory of Storeroom and OR Supply Rooms.
  13. Manage internal and external courier service to support cross-site supply needs.
  14. Participates with the Director, Supply Chain in Human Resources Management activities such as interviewing and hiring, orientation/training, competency assessment, performance appraisal, and disciplinary action.
  15. Ensures staff are properly trained to meet the needs of their jobs including;
    1. Employees are oriented to department, hospital and corporate policies and procedures.
    2. Employees are trained to perform their jobs.
    3. Employees are cross-trained in the various areas.
  16. Assists the Director, Supply Chain in maintaining expenses within budgetary guidelines.
    1. Supports in the controlling of expenditures for assigned areas.
    2. Controls scheduled overtime within established parameters.
  17. Reviews and prepares staffing plans and schedules to provide the appropriate staffing mix and number of FTEs on all shifts to meet demand.
  18. Monitors time and attendance of assigned staff. Approves absences and ensures corrective action is taken when attendance expectations are not met.
  19. Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Attained Level: High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Required: 4-6 years

Experience (describe required & preferred):

  • 4+ years of experience in supply distribution/warehouse is required.
  • 2+ years of experience in hospital supply chain is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer systems and automated inventory systems.

Able to use hydraulic pallet jack, hand truck, utility toolsto open and close containers..
