Scot Kaufman Cancer Center, Bel Air, MDThe Senator Bob Hooper House, Forest Hill, MDJob DescriptionGeneral SummaryUnder limited supervision, the Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) provides comprehensive care to sexual assault patients. The FNE conducts a medical forensic assault history and physical examination as well as evidence collection, preservation, and documentation. The FNE ensures crisis intervention and medical treatment is provided while in the Emergency Department. The FNE coordinates reporting to appropriate police jurisdiction and/or Child Protective Services, if applicable. The FNE will interface with patient advocacy, law enforcement and crime labs. The FNE provides referrals to community agencies as well as follow-up referrals for health care. The FNE will participate in legal proceedings including courtroom testimony.The FNE provides care to patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/technology, and other healthcare team members, according to established standards. Patients served include all age groups (infant through older adult as identified in Performance Standards) dependant on FNE level of certification.MissionAll employees are responsible for extending the mission and values of UM Upper Chesapeake Health by dedicating oneself to providing the highest quality healthcare services to the communities we serve.Reporting RelationshipsReports to Forensic Nurse Examiner Program Coordinator.QualificationsJOB SUMMARY: A clinically competent professional who utilizes the nursing process to direct and deliver care to the patient population on an assigned unit.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Education & Training: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Currently licensed as an RN in the State of Maryland. Currently licensed as an FNE-A. Certification in BCLS is required. Additional certification and training as determined by department per job task list.Work Orientation & Experience: Orientation based on experience level and determined by unit.Skills & Abilities: Ability to: a) convey effective verbal and written communications; b) utilize basic assessment and critical thinking skills; c) organize and manage time effectively setting appropriate priorities; d) make independent decisions consistent with current policies, procedures and nursing standards including the standards as outlined for the FNE; e) hours of availability to include on-call time to meet coverage needs including all shifts; f) effectively function as a member of a collaborative team; g) respond to sexual assault situations appropriately; h) adhere to standards of behavior and support the Culture of Excellence.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:Supervised by: Charge Nurse / Clinical Nurse Manager / Nursing DirectorAdditional InformationAll your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
