Job Summary:Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a prion disease spreading throughout Wisconsin and the nation. It is fatal to deer, and there are no treatments or vaccines. The World Health Organization recommends eliminating the disease from the human food chain. The team at WVDL has the ability to tests for CWD, which helps prevent the consumption of infected meat and track the disease's spread. With hunting season approaching, WVDL is temporarily expanding their team to handle the increased workload.The Lab Technician will support the laboratory by preparing lymph nodes for testing. Additional tasks may include administrative and logistical duties, such as creating and updating records. Familiarity and experience with tissue handling and preparation techniques are highly valued, they are not required. WVDL is willing to provide training for the right candidate.Responsibilities:Performs routine support in a laboratory to support diagnostic or research work. May calibrate and maintain equipment and creates and/or updates records. May handle administrative and logistical tasks.• 10% Uses, maintains, calibrates, and sets up lab equipment and apparatuses according to established policies and procedures and documents activities• 75% Coordinates and participates in a variety of routine technical duties by providing assistance to research and/or laboratory staff in testing and experiments• 5% Performs quality control, acknowledges documents, performs document reviews and/or writes and revises documents as assigned• 5% Completes and acknowledges trainings• 5% Sets up, prepares, and cleans laboratory glassware, instruments, equipment, and laboratory work spacesTasks:• Ability to complete repetitive tasks, communicate effectively, and work well in a team.• Organize and prepare samples and work logs.• Properly clean and disinfect lab equipment and instruments according to approved procedures.• Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition.
