This role is responsible for writing, editing, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of all published content while collaborating with key stakeholders to develop and execute effective content development for the website and other platforms. In a high-volume department, the managing editor will ensure all content reflects consistency and alignment with the university's editorial and writing guidelines and AP Style standards. As the clinical practice of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, UT Physicians provides multi-specialty care throughout more than 100 clinical locations across the Greater Houston area. The managing editor will play a key role in effectively communicating the mission and services of UT Physicians to a broad audience.Once you join us you won't want to leave. Ensures that written materials meet high standards of accuracy, readability, customer understanding, and adherence to the university's editorial and writing guidelines for cross-functional teams.Position Key Accountabilities:• Writes and edits content for the patient portal to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance with UTHealth Houston's communication standards.• Collaborates with subject matter experts, health care professionals, and IT teams to understand complex medical information and translate it into easily understandable language for patients.• Conducts thorough proofreading to identify and correct grammatical errors, typos, and formatting issues in patient communications and other types of written material.• Works closely with UX/UI designers to optimize the presentation of information, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience for patients.• Provides constructive feedback to content creators and contributes to the development of communication guidelines for patient engagement.• Provides cross-departmental editing support for multiple committees and groups across the practice plan.• Performs other duties as assigned.Certification/Skills:• Familiarity with medical terminology and the ability to translate complex medical information into plain language.• Exceptional attention to detail and strong proofreading skills.• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and sensitivity to patient confidentiality.• Proficiency in using content management systems and collaboration tools.• Extensive knowledge of the AP Stylebook.• Remains current on industry best practices, health literacy principles, and evolving patient communication trends to continuously improve content strategies.Minimum Education:• Bachelor's Degree in English, communications, journalism, or related field required.Minimum Experience:• 5 years experience in copy editing required.• Experience in a healthcare or patient-focused environment preferred.Physical Requirements:Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount frequently to move objects.Security Sensitive:This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215Residency Requirement:Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
