This is a hybrid role working from one of our London hubs 2 days per week.

We’re seeking a skilled UI Designer to join the UX team here at UW. This is a key role and you'll play a critical part in maintaining and enhancing our established design systems.

Here's some of the key skills & experience we are looking for:

  • Solid background in design systems, UI design, and a good grasp of UX principles.
  • Proven experience in designing large, scalable, multi-channel design systems.
  • Experience working with engineers to ensure seamless translation of design into code.
  • Highly proficient in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop & Illustrator).
  • Strong understanding of Atomic Design methodology or similar frameworks.
  • Technical knowledge, including a basic understanding of front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals).
  • Great at solving complex design challenges, such as component scalability and platform-specific constraints.
  • A good understanding of user-centred design, balancing user and business needs.
  • Passionate about design, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Skilled at explaining your process, methodology, and design system strategy.
  • Self-motivated and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Active participant in UX design and front-end engineering communities, valuing collaboration and feedback.
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG)
    An effective communicator who confidently presents design concepts and strategies.

As the UI Designer, you play a key role in the UX Team. You’ll join a collaborative and passionate UX community, committed to delivering outstanding user experiences

You'll report into the Head of UX and work closely with UX Designers, Engineers and Product Managers to maintain and enhance our established design systems.

In this role, you’ll shape digital experiences across all our platforms by delivering a coherent and scalable design language. As a key contributor, you’ll own the design system’s development process, empowering teams to create exceptional products and enable product teams to build things faster.

What you’ll do on a day to basis:

  • Drive consistency: Collaborate with product teams to ensure design consistency across all customer touchpoints, including responsive web and native apps (iOS & Android).
  • Simplify design: Partner with UX designers to transform user insights and business requirements into elegant, practical design solutions.
  • Govern and scale: Work with engineers to establish a scalable governance model for the design system's evolution.
  • Maintain and evolve: Oversee and enhance our Figma component library in collaboration with cross-functional teams, ensuring assets are optimised for seamless handoff to developers.
  • Document and enable: Develop clear, comprehensive documentation for components, design rules, patterns, style guides, and interactions to support efficient team workflows.
  • Partner with engineers: Collaborate closely with design system engineers across web and app platforms, ensuring designs are implementable and meet technical requirements.
  • Align with brand: Work with brand and marketing teams to maintain consistency with brand guidelines and campaigns.
  • Elevate interactions: Design exceptional micro-interactions that enhance digital experiences and support accessibility goals.
  • Champion inclusivity: Ensure all designs meet AA accessibility standards, embrace inclusive design principles, and consider assistive technologies during the design process.
  • Solve complex challenges: Address intricate design system issues such as component reusability, cross-platform constraints, and scalability for diverse product needs.
  • Facilitate collaboration: Promote awareness, collaboration, and adoption of the design system across product teams, fostering contributions and shared ownership.
