Job Description

This is a technical position that requires proven infrastructure configuration and management, with strong communication, customer service focus, as well as excellent technical network and security knowledge.

The successful applicant will participate in the architectural design, configuration, deployment, and management/support of the IT estate for a large Irish customer.

This is a hands-on role requiring excellent communication and technical skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Experienced Windows & VMware engineer who will be responsible for the support and ongoing project work on the Windows & VMware side of the customers estate.
  • Will work closely with the customer daily, attending planning, support, design, and strategy meetings.
  • Management of team resources and customer expectations to ensure capacity as required.
  • Working closely with other Version 1 Technical Leads to ensure an overall understanding and approach to the customers IT estate management is maintained.
  • Documentation and development of designs, processes and procedures.
  • Work within a structured ITIL / ISO20000 IT Service Management environment.
  • Works directly with client to gather requirements, design solutions, build proof of concepts and implement solutions.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, interpersonal and reporting skills arising from customer facing and on-site experience.
  • Escalation point for major incidents/investigations.

Qualifications

Experience Required

  • Solid technical aptitude, the ability to work in a team, good people skills and a minimum of 3 years' experience working within a similar technical role.
  • Strong working knowledge of modern Microsoft technologies – e.g. Active Directory, Microsoft Entra, M365.
  • Experienced in the support and configuration of virtualised Windows VMs (server 2016, 2019 & 2021).
  • Expert Domain Controller knowledge required.
  • Proven experience deploying, supporting, managing and troubleshooting VMWare ESXi, SRM, and vCentre.
  • VMWare & Windows certification a distinct advantage.
  • Disaster recovery and site replication solutions experience using VMware Site Recovery Manager.
  • Working knowledge in networking and security best practise.
  • Interpreting, understanding and solving complex technical problems/incidents.
  • Project or support delivery experience with client facing background.
  • Strong experience across multi-server, stand alone and clustered solutions.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills required.

Desirable skills

  • Performance monitoring experience would be valuable, e.g. Opsview, Nagios etc
  • GitHub experience
  • Experience using ServiceNow
  • Experience with backup technologies (e.g. NetBackup, Veeam, Backup Exec, ARCserve, Data Protector, CommVault)
  • ITIL® Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management
