Job Description

The Project Engineer plays a critical role in managing communications, documentation, and coordination for modular construction projects. Reporting to the General Manager – Projects, this position oversees construction submittals, RFIs, and ensures regular progress updates to customers. The Project Engineer collaborates closely with Project Managers, supports planning and scheduling efforts, and completes tasks as assigned to ensure project success. The role emphasizes technical support and effective coordination to implement modular construction processes.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Management
    • Serve as the primary keeper of project-specific tasks, managing submittal approvals, RFIs, and day-to-day correspondence.
    • Support project scheduling, budgeting, and overall implementation.
    • Contribute to the preparation of the schedule of values.
    • Help develop project schedules with input from the project team and, if necessary, in coordination with the Scheduling Department.
    • Assist with managing change orders involving clients, architects, and engineers.
    • Report progress and any issues to Project Managers for resolution.
    • Lead smaller project phases or specific coordination meetings with subcontractors and internal teams
    • Complete all required reports in a timely manner.
  • Procurement and Documentation
    • Assist in material procurement, inventory management, and confirmation of materials on hand, ensuring alignment with approved submittals before production.
    • Support the preparation of subcontracts, purchase orders, requisitions, and proposals.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Attend weekly OAC (Owner-Architect-Contractor) coordination meetings or calls.
    • Aid in project planning for management approval.
    • Provide guidance to Project Coordinators on documentation standards, RFIs, and technical submittal processes.
  • Compliance, Safety, & Close-Out Process:
    • Ensure on-site activities comply with company safety standards and government regulations, actively promoting health and safety work practices.
    • Support in obtaining necessary permits and monitoring adherence to local and federal codes.
    • Assist in quality control efforts to ensure compliance with project specifications.
    • Coordinate the project close-out process, ensuring subcontractors and vendors have received all documentation, warranties, submittals, and manuals.
    • Assemble the close-out package in collaboration with the Project Manager – Transitions

EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in building science, construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 2–3 years of experience in construction or a similar industry, with a strong preference for experience in modular construction processes or prefabrication.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards specific to modular construction is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications such as Procore Certification, Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), or OSHA 10-Hour Construction Certification are strongly preferred.
  • Any combination of relevant education and/or experience demonstrating proficiency in the essential functions of the role.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management software (e.g., MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam).
  • Basic understanding of construction methods, materials, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Ability to apply construction knowledge in a modular manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, and cost control processes to assist project managers effectively.
  • Understanding of safety regulations, risk management, and compliance standards to support safe project execution.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills for managing project documentation and tasks.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to facilitate correspondence between project teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively under the direction of Project Managers, providing support for planning, execution, and documentation tasks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This role involves both office and construction site settings. Office tasks occur in a controlled environment with standard equipment, while regular construction site visits may involve outdoor conditions and active work areas. A professional demeanor and effective communication are essential in both settings.
  • Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance is an essential function of this role.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer, including repetitive hand and wrist movements.
  • Proficiency in handling office equipment and moving around the office.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Good visual acuity for reading screens and documents.
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain and various conditions commonly found on construction job sites.
