About the team

The Rental Platform team develops and supports applications, data pipelines and infrastructure used by distributed Zillow Group teams working on helping the customers’ journey throughout the rental process.

This team focuses on the infrastructure to take applications from idea to high-performance production. As a platform engineer you will be responsible for designing and building scalable and efficient solutions, and ensuring the reliability of our applications. We partner closely with frontend applications teams, backend teams, and DevOps to build, test, and scale out applications. We accomplish this with a mix of home-grown technology and open source software like Docker, Kubernetes, and more. We are driven to help developers iterate quickly and to build valuable products for our customers.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to help build the future of Rentals infrastructure. You’ll be an integral part of the process and perform a diverse set of tasks. You will:

• Build developer tooling to support self-service, on-demand test environments and different styles of deployment like canaries, blue / green

• Actively collaborate and share expertise with distributed teams across Rentals

• Automate and reduce the friction of platform onboarding

• Provide support to developers using the team’s tools

• Develop and maintain high-quality software applications

This role has been categorized as a teleworker position. Teleworkers do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any part of Mexico, but preferably in Mexico City, as we would encourage attendance for occasional in-office events.

In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Who you are

We are looking for a talented and experienced software engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Java and best practices for software development, as well as significant experience developing backend platforms.
 

Qualifications:

• At least 6+ years of backend software development experience

• Demonstrated experience in Java and at least one other language

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Excellent communication skills
   

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

• Experience with developing for Kubernetes or other container management platforms
