Senior Human Systems Interfaces Engineer

Zoox is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, Systems Engineer to lead and drive the Human Machine Interface (HMI) System on the Zoox mobility service.  HMI is critical to the Zoox product as it provides the interface between our customers and the Zoox robotaxi enabling ingress, egress, and rider comfort.  You will be responsible for supporting a diverse group of product managers, UX designers, firmware engineers, software engineers, and robot systems engineers in activities including: design documentation of Zoox’s Closures and HMI systems (architecture, requirements, models); implementation of new rider-facing functions; debug and performance improvement of existing rider-facing functions; test development; and diagnostic/monitor/watchdog development.


In this role, you will
  • Create and Maintain an architecture model which describes how the system should behave.
  • Maintain existing system documentation (diagrams, requirements).  Author new system-level documentation for new features.  Update system-level documentation with changes from software/firmware/hardware to ensure that system continues to function correctly.
  • Work with all development partners to create implementation plans: software, firmware, hardware, manufacturing, integration, validation, and operations teams.
  • Lead the Systems Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (Systems FMEA) with cross-functional stakeholders to close design gaps, add new test cases or diagnostics, and develop new fault-tolerant system functions.
  • Lead system-level triage with cross-functional stakeholders for bugs or reported issues.


Qualifications
  • 8 years of engineering work experience.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet), infotainment systems and body control systems such as doors, interior/exterior lighting, audio/sounds.
  • Strong understanding of hardware and software development processes.
  • Strong leadership and management skills. Experience leading cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.  Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience designing fail-safe and fault-tolerant systems.
  • Experience debugging complex systems that involve multiple ECUs with interfaces to various subsystems.


Bonus Qualifications
  • Ability to read C++ code and determine state machine, sequence, or functional interfaces.
  • Ability to read Python script and determine test case conditions and sequence.
  • Strong systems design or architecture experience is a plus.
  • Experience with autonomous vehicles is a plus.
  • Experience with actuator controls design is a plus.


Compensation

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $190,000 to $249,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
