Systems Safety Engineer - Operational Tools Intern

We are seeking a systems engineer candidate with a strong software development background to support safety analysis of off-vehicle software components and tools and potentially the automation of test pipelines. The System Safety for Operations and Service (SSOS) team leads the safety evaluation of Zoox operations and service such as TeleOperations, remote operator support tools, and test equipment including safety analysis using methods such as System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), requirements definition, and field safety investigations. The SSOS is part of the SDMA team that is responsible for delivering the overall safety case to deploy our robots onto public roads.


Technical Qualifications & Language Requirements
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree in robotics, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, computer science engineering, or other technical area 
  • Solid understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns
  • Familiarity with developing operational tools/features and/or release management process 
  • Familiarity and interest in distributed systems, telemetry, or cloud platforms
  • Familiarity with formal safety analysis (STPA, FTA, etc)


Compensation

The monthly salary range for this position is $6,500 to $9,500. Compensation will vary based on role, degree level and type, and benefits will be offered based on eligibility. Additional benefits may include medical insurance, 401k, and a housing stipend.
