OverviewThe Director of Finance has responsibilities for providing financial management expertise, month end close support, provide inputs for pro forma development, and analytic insights to support business decision-making processes. The Director will utilize data and information generated by the organization’s financial, operational, and decision support systems to inform financial analyses, assess business opportunities, and provide financial commentary to leadership. This role supports institutional financial planning operations for all network hospitals and leadership decision making. The scope of responsibilities includes acting as an organizational internal finance consultant in areas such as business intelligence, clinical service line and shared services, acute hospital facility, as well as key management reporting. Labor & Productivity management, understanding of revenue cycle performance drivers, reimbursement/managed care and supply chain implications will be important for the success of this role.Major Accountabilities/Responsibilities:1. Demonstrates leadership in the areas of:• Financial planning and management• Business Intelligence and Reporting• Working in partnership with multi-disciplinary stakeholder groups• Continuous innovation and quality improvement• Institutional support and representation• Process and project management• Customer service2. Create business plans linked to various mission-based strategic plans, long range financial plan, operating and capital plans, and medical staff development plan.3. Align Finance-related functions that supports, in a customer centric manner, finance roles in Clinical and Academic operational departments (i.e. Directors of Finance, Divisional Managers, Administrative Directors, and Business Administrators), support functions (Office of Faculty Compensation and Recruitment), and network hospitals (Lexington, Wilkes, High Point Medical Centers).4. Provide support and liaison for financial analysis and perspective to Strategic Planning and Operational Leadership on various issues including revenue and expense trends, changes in facilities activities, growth of new services and opportunities for market expansion, operational efficiencies and cost reduction strategies, and business assessment5. Coordinate the interpretation of statistical and metric information, including insights on emerging trends, intervention opportunities and impacts. Analyze, report, and develop presentations and commentary on key performance indicators along with trends related to income statement. Evaluate continuously, in coordination with other WFBMC functions, economic and other forces, and interpret their effects upon the network hospitals’ financial performance.6. Provide analytical and measurement guidance for the development of strategic and tactical initiatives that positively impact delivery of patient care and financial performance such as productivity improvements, and utilization at all network hospitals7. Support the CFO of Network Hospitals on various initiatives and special projects when requested.8. Partner with data warehouse and analytic functions to develop and assure accurate and comparable data is published in formats and reports that are meaningful to inform the management and decision-making of the organization.9. Support the operating and capital budget process with input and analysis10. Create templates, provide education and expertise of business and financial matters to non-financial leaders in the organization11. Work with members of the Decision Support and Costing team to identify areas for improved cost accounting and revenue modeling.12. Work in partnership with other financial functions (ie: Controller, Treasury, Patient Financial Services, Supply Chain, Reimbursement, Managed Care, etc.) to develop, interpret, coordinate, and communicate operating and financial initiativesEducation, Experience and Certifications• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Related Field; Master’s Degree preferred• 5+ years relevant experience• HFMA or CFA certification preferredThe ideal candidate will also possess:• Knowledge of operational and financial aspects healthcare service delivery• High degree of systems and technical competence• Experience in leadership role• Excellent communication skills• Ability to drive change• Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary stakeholders, senior executives, physician leadership, and operational managers in the preparation, analysis and presentation of decision making information• Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills• Ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality• Strong analytical & financial management capabilities• Strong commitment to values of excellence, compassion, innovation, integrity, and collegiality
