The Role:

Beam is looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager who is passionate about building and nurturing highly effective, self-sufficient teams. As a leader at Beam, you’ll oversee a team of 6–10 engineers with a diverse range of skill sets, providing them with opportunities to work across our product suite and gain a well-rounded understanding of our business.


We’re seeking candidates with a strong engineering background who can excel in people management and strategic direction. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other key partners to deliver high-impact projects while maintaining a balance between quality and speed. What You Will Do:
  • Manage and mentor a diverse group of engineers, supporting their career growth through regular one-on-ones, feedback, and performance reviews
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture that drives innovation, continuous learning, and excellence
  • Attract, hire, and retain top technical talent to contribute across Beam’s product and technical ecosystem
  • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of high-impact projects, ensuring they meet quality standards and align with company goals
  • Refine roadmaps and set technical direction in partnership with engineering and product leadership
  • Balance maintaining existing features with iterating on new products by implementing effective processes and frameworks
  • Work closely with Product, Design, Operations, Analytics, Legal, and Compliance teams to gather requirements and ensure solutions meet business and regulatory needs
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing updates on project status, risks, and opportunities
  • Drive the evolution of Beam’s tech stack to ensure scalability, reliability, and innovation
  • Solve complex problems by providing clarity and motivating the team through challengesInfluence the engineering roadmap to align with business goals and customer needs


What You Will Bring:
  • 8–10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years managing engineering managers or senior ICs
  • Proven ability to finesse product requirements and translate them into actionable plans for engineering teams
  • A bias for EQ-led growth, fostering a culture of trust, empathy, and team success
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional teams, including Security, Product, Design, and executive leadership, to drive impactful results
  • Demonstrated experience in shaping engineering roadmaps and aligning them with broader business objectives
  • A strong track record of managing competing priorities in fast-paced, ambiguous environments


Technical Skills and Experience Needed to Be Successful:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 8–10 years of experience in software engineering, including leading engineering managers or senior ICs
  • Hands-on experience delivering full-stack solutions, including familiarity with modern programming languages and frameworks like Ruby on Rails and React
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and microservices architecture
  • Proven experience leading teams to deliver complex multi-tiered web applications and peripheral microservices
  • Strong understanding of engineering delivery metrics and ability to report with narratives, to drive prioritization of projects and capacity
  • Strong skills in mentoring and coaching engineers, including growing technical and people leaders within your team
  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and project management tools such as Jira
  • Organizational leadership experience, including collaborating with executive leadership and influencing business strategy


$152,300 - $243,700 a year
The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and budget for the open position and also may vary depending on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other relevant factors. This range does not include an estimated value for any benefits, bonus, or other incentives that may be applicable based on position.
