The role:

The State Clinical Director will oversee all clinical and clinical ops functions for behavioral health programs within the State, ensuring delivery of effective, efficient and high quality services to members.  The State Clinical Director oversees the counseling and recovery coach teams, while working closely with the General Manager, medical leadership and operational associates throughout the State, as well as BLP’s Head of Behavioral Health. You will lead from the front, interacting regularly with clients, referral sources, field staff, and members of the local community. You will be a resource for clients and community partners, guiding them on the path to recovery. You will motivate a high impact team of medical providers, counselors and coordinators, helping clients to thrive. Your work is essential and your constant feedback will be expected to help our team help clients reach their best outcome possible.


This is a hybrid position. Must be able to regularly work in-person at our office in Portland, ME, travel throughout the state, and be able to travel for regular meetings at our offices in Boston, MA or Short Hills, NJ or Manhattan NY approximately monthly. When not in-office, work will be performed remotely. Candidates must reside in-market.


What you will do:
  • Demonstrating and communicating the core values of Better Life Partners
  • Leading the Better Life Partners Maine Counseling team. Hiring, training, and managing a counseling team with strong, professional judgment. 
  • Directing use of Better Life Partners evidence-based curriculum guides and training
  • Providing detailed feedback and coaching for counseling teams
  • Counseling groups and one-on-one with clients, when necessary
  • Collaborating with community partners and Better Life Partners providers on case management and care coordination efforts
  • Partnering closely with Better Life Partners state leadership to provide integrated approaches for counselor/provider teams
  • Adhering to professional and ethical work standards, enforcing appropriate counselor/client boundaries
  • Monitoring compliance with federal, state and local regulations for counseling, supervision and consultation purposes
  • Provide input to the compliance team to ensure clinical documentation adheres to specific requirements (Trauma-Informed Care, Evidence-Based practices, ASAM, etc.) and that documentation is compliant with program regulations and licensing standards Oversee clinical requirements of payer contracts within the State and operationalize the clinical maximization of all bundle-eligible members
  • Identify service needs throughout the State; plan, develop and implement programs to meet those needs.   
  • Work collaboratively to support projects/initiatives within the State


You are a good fit if you have:
  • Graduate degree in mental health, social work, psychology, addictions or related field
  • Maine License as CCS and LCPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Psychologist
  • Additional Maine license as LADC is preferred
  • Experience managing and leading teams
  • 3-4 years of experience working with substance use or related field
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel throughout the State in order to be familiar with our in-person locations as well as facilitate in-person meetings with BLP Teammates


It will also be great if you have:
  • Additional advanced degrees in counseling, or other related fields
  • Experience with diverse populations


Work location requirements:
  • BLP operates in hybrid and remote work environments, which allows us to better meet our members and partners where they’re located. Candidates applying for this role must be willing and able to travel locally within the communities we serve and/or travel to onsite meetings as expected in coordination with their department and business needs. 


When working from home, the requirements include:
  • Must have reliable internet service with a fast upload/download ability
  • Ability to ensure any protected health or proprietary data/information is not visible (or audible)  to others in any work location
  • Must have a quiet space to speak to members, team members, or external partners with minimal background noise and distractions


$89,250 - $112,875 a year
The actual compensation offered within the range, along with title and level, will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, level offered, business requirements, and performance expectations. All full-time BLPeeps are also eligible for equity in the form of stock options to be invested in BLP’s growth and success!
