HR & People Operations Manager

The position will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on HR and people-related issues and opportunities, leveraging their expertise in employee relations, performance management, recruitment, and compliance. This individual will act as a point of contact for employees and managers, helping to create a positive workplace culture and ensuring HR and operations run smoothly. Additionally, this role will utilize people data insights to drive strategies that foster a high-performance culture and Make Fans internally.

This role will also support a startup sister organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Employee Relations:

  • Address employee concerns and inquiries, fostering a positive, inclusive work environment.
  • Conduct investigations and resolve complex employee relations issues with fairness and confidentiality.
  • Provide guidance on disciplinary actions, terminations, and performance improvement plans.

Performance Management:

  • Support managers in implementing performance management and review processes.
  • Provide coaching to managers and employees to improve performance and productivity.
  • Assist in developing training and professional development initiatives.

Recruitment & Onboarding:

  • Collaborate with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and assist with the recruitment process, including sourcing, interviewing and selection.
  • Oversee onboarding to ensure new hires are integrated successfully, contributing to a seamless transition.

Policy Implementation & Compliance:

  • Develop and enforce company policies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Stay updated on labor law changes and ensure the organization’s practices are in line with current regulations.
  • Lead or participate in HR audits, identifying any compliance gaps and recommending corrective actions.

Employee Engagement:

  • Plan and execute employee engagement initiatives, including surveys, focus groups, and team-building events.
  • Assist in analyzing feedback and implementing programs to improve workplace morale and engagement.

Compensation & Benefits Administration:

  • Support compensation and benefits processes, including annual reviews and open enrollment.
  • Work with HR leadership to maintain competitive and equitable compensation structures.

Insights & Executive Reporting:

  • Track and report key HR metrics to provide insights on turnover, engagement, diversity, and compliance.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and propose solutions to enhance HR programs and policies.

  • 3+ years experience in a generalist HR role at a software company
  • Experience developing and managing programs across the entire employee lifecycle
  • Experience with relevant legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, AODA, Bill C-45
  • CHRP designation or designation in progress
