Your Mission: 

The Child Mental Health Clinician plays a critical role in delivering culturally competent, specialized Adaptive Behavioral Support (ABS) therapy to children and adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Reporting directly to the Adaptive Behavioral Support (ABS) Services Coordinator, the Clinician collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide evidence-based interventions that enhance social-emotional development and improve the quality of life for clients and their families. Through individualized therapy, group sessions, and caregiver education, the Clinician empowers parents and caregivers to implement strategies that foster developmental progress. The Clinician also plays a key role in community outreach, establishing strong partnerships with external organizations to amplify the program’s impact. This position is integral to delivering high-quality, culturally inclusive care to underserved communities and advancing CASL’s mission of improving client outcomes and supporting holistic well-being.

Your Impact: 

As a Child Mental Health Clinician, you will: 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Work under the ABS Services Coordinator or ABS Developmental Clinician to conduct Behavior Assessment and Treatment Planning (BATP). Focus on assessing the individual’s maladaptive or disruptive behaviors, functional skills, skill deficits, and skill acquisition and maintenance, while developing or updating individualized treatment goals. 
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the Department of Behavioral Health and Clinical Services (BHCS) and external providers to enhance assessment accuracy and treatment outcomes. Maximize the potential impact of interventions by aligning them with the individual’s developmental stage and unique strengths. 
• Conduct assessments including administering, scoring, and interpreting assessment, under the clinical supervision of the ABS Services Coordinator or ABS Clinician; interview with the individual’s caregiver(s); doing non-face-to-face analysis of treatment history; and discussing findings and recommendations with the individual and their parent or guardian (or other caregiver), as appropriate. 
• Review the BATP with the ABS Services Coordinator or ABS Clinician, along with the individual and their parent or assigned guardian. 
• Conduct ABS such as DIRFloortime ®, an evidence-based intervention, or other evidence-based therapy sessions for children and adults with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or intellectual/developmental disorders, per individualized treatment plans.   
• Utilize ABS principles to facilitate social, emotional, and intellectual capacities rather than focusing exclusively on skills and isolated behaviors.  
• Understand and incorporate an individual’s developmental journey in the intervention.   
• Create a supportive and engaging therapeutic environment, harnessing the key affective (emotional) aspect of these relationships to promote development. 
• Educate and guide parents/caregivers on implementing ABS strategies at home, providing practical support and tips for enhancing child development and daily living skills. Monitor caregiver engagement to ensure the successful application of strategies outside therapy. 
• Collaborate with caregivers to establish consistent routines and expectations. 
• Receive regular clinical supervision from ABS Developmental Clinician or the ABS Coordinator.   
• Provide mental health services to parents/caregivers using modalities such as Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Circles of Security. These services are provided under the clinical supervision of the ABS Coordinator to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 
• Provide parental education workshops to increase their knowledge and skills in social-emotional learning and development of infants, children and young adults.   

• Responsible for day-to-day task administration, potential client follow-up, client scheduling, and timely case note documentation, including but not limited to counseling sessions, case management, and crisis interventions 
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams internally on case management 
• Complete all assessments, treatment plans, reports, clinical charts, and non-clinical notes in a timely manner (within 30 days of services). 
• Conduct and enter all assessment data into required portals or systems  
• Oversee data entry into Salesforce and Electronic Health Record systems  
• Provide feedback to the Behavioral Health Program Coordinator regarding BHCS marketing  
• Conduct quarterly quality assurance review of client records and clinical care 
• Operate in grant compliance requirements, legal guidelines, internal policies and quality standards 
• Guide one’s own professional development, including participating in the supervisory process and using other educational opportunities, both within and outside of the agency, to become or maintain a mental health related license/certificate

• Education & Experience: 
• Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Human Services, or other related fields required 
• Must have a Mental Health related license/certificate to practice in the state of Illinois or be eligible to obtain the license/certificate. CASL will support the right candidate in securing a mental health related license/certificate to practice in the state of Illinois 
• Experience working with infants and young children, or children/adults with ASD and other developmental disabilities, is preferred 
• Obtain DIRFloortime® Basic Level Certificate within 4 months of hire, DIRFloortime® Proficiency Level Certificate within 9 months of hire, DIRFloortime® Advance Level Certificate within 12 months of hire; obtain other relevant substitute training as approved by the grant(s) or within the State of IL ABS rules  

• Proficiency in English required, with second language proficiency such as Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese) highly preferred 
• Skilled in establishing rapport and fostering trust with children, adults, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. 
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage, listen, and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams. 
• Demonstrated passion for working with culturally, racially diverse, and underserved communities, with a focus on providing equitable and inclusive care. 
• Demonstrated expertise in data management using Salesforce, EHR systems, and other relevant platforms, ensuring timely, accurate and compliant clinical documentation. 
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel), data entry and web navigation 
• Basic understanding of Salesforce or similar data management systems is a plus. 

• Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, with occasional lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 20 pounds. 

• Work is performed between the hours of 8:00 am to 7:00 pm in 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, and one rotational Saturday a month at minimum 
• Must be flexible and available to work after regular business hours when necessary (e.g., weekends and evening periods) 
• Delivery of services in the home or other community-based settings as needed 
• Access to a vehicle to commute to in-home session and outreach events
