Energy and Environmental Economics, Inc. (E3) is a San Francisco-based economics and engineering consulting firm specializing in the electric power industry. We work with energy companies and regulators in the U.S., Canada, Africa, China, Europe, India, and the Middle East in all areas of the electricity industry: energy efficiency, renewable energy, distributed generation, electric vehicles, electric rate design, transmission, and climate change policy.

Internship Program
The E3 Internship Program is designed to provide an opportunity for top students that will be graduating within the year, to work on emerging energy topics alongside our staff of industry experts. Candidates in science and engineering, economics, business, public policy, and related disciplines are all encouraged to apply. The program is highly selective. Ideal candidates will combine enthusiasm for their topics, academic excellence, and relevant work experience.
We require a minimum commitment of 8-12 weeks in a full time capacity, but specific beginning and end dates are flexible as we welcome Spring, Summer, and Fall Interns. Specific dates can be tailored to individual situations.
Successful applicants will work with E3 experts on a range of topics. Interns will also contribute to active E3 projects.
The main goals of the program are to:
- Provide students with the opportunity to work in a professional consulting atmosphere in which their research can be put into immediate practice
- Provide students with an opportunity to develop a research “deliverable” that they can use as the basis of future research, publications, and applications
- Provide E3 with an opportunity to work with top students who may be interested in consulting careers after graduation

E3 Location and Logistics
Interns can work from one of our offices located in downtown San Francisco, New York City, or Boston. Interns are expected to work during E3’s regular business hours, which are 9 am to 6 pm, and at least 3 days per week from the office. This is a full time hourly internship position.
E3 has a hybrid and flexible work environment that adapts to changing needs of projects and safety requirements. E3 thrives in a strong collaborative office-based working environment but has also adapted to the safety requirements of our employees. Must be able to work for extended hours in front of a computer screen and conduct meetings on the telephone and virtually.

Timeline
The hiring cycle in will run from December thru March.
- Applications will run from January through February with interviews taking place in February and hiring decisions being made in March.
All interviews throughout the process are conducted virtually and typically focus on analytical and behavioral interview questions. Recruitment process for this role will consist of the initial resume review, phone screen, and final interview with a senior staff member.
All students graduating from their degree within the year of their application will be considered.
