The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan serves as a common solicitor, storehouse and distributor of food on behalf of its Partner Agencies which are non-profit, charitable organizations serving those in need.
Today the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan provides over 40 million pounds of food each year to those in need through more than 700 partner agencies. Partner Agencies consist of local soup kitchens, shelters, and food pantries who strive to feed the more than 300,000 people in eastern Michigan who are food insecure. The excellent relationships established within the Food Bank’s 22 county service area and throughout the state has allowed for numerous programs and initiatives to help fight hunger.
JOB SUMMARY
Candidates must live in or near the Gaylord area.
The Food Sourcing Coordinator is responsible for supporting all aspects of food procurement and food sourcing. This position will execute department functions in a timely manner, with a high degree of accuracy. To ensure superior customer service to all internal team members and other stakeholders of the organization. All activities will support the organization’s mission, culture, and strategic plan objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Create and maintain a positive work environment in alignment with the Company core values.
• Responsible for working cohesively with all team members within the Food Procurement & Food Sourcing Department.
• Responsible for nurturing and maintaining external relationships with retail stores, farmers, producers, manufacturers, and other food donors.
• Travel is required in order to maintain relationships with donors, farmers, manufacturers, and other food donors.
• Responsible for completing and maintaining training recertification to operate equipment, customer service, Serve Safe and Civil Rights Training, and work in partnership with Compliance & Safety Specialist and Human Resources.
• Supports a smooth execution of workflow with incoming orders and outgoing deliveries, interfacing with Warehouse, Transportation, Inventory, and with other stakeholders of organization.
• Complies with purchasing and procurement policies & procedures and offers input on department policies & procedure updates.
• Maintains good vendor relationships.
• Works effectively with stakeholders from diverse populations, revealing sensitivity, understanding and acceptance of others.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual inventories and Q&A as requested.
• Assists in the daily operation of other departments when requested and other related activities as required or as assigned by the supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
• Associate degree in related field, with some purchasing experience or equivalent.
• Valid MI Driver's License
• OSHA Certification
• CPR/First aid Certification
• Serv Safe Certification and Civil Right Training
WORK EXPERIENCE
• Previous ordering and/or inventory experience with a food distributor
• Experience in operating pallet jacks and forklifts highly preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Must possess Microsoft, Google, and other software application experience.
• High communications and organizational skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks and produce accurate work.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, and agencies.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent leadership skills
• Ability to understand and comply with Feeding America & AIB/ Safe Food Handling Practices & Procedures.
• Sensitivity, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to honor confidentiality.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office environment for day-to-day operations, with desk work and computer usage to organize and execute development activities. Some activities may be more physical in nature such as, event set-up requiring standing for long periods, walking, bending, and stooping. Work hours in development can vary in relation to events, food drives, dinners and outside activities throughout the community and will involve evenings and weekends.
