Position Summary

As a Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local housing program regulations, including Section 8, Rural Development, Low Income Housing Tax Credit and other affordable housing initiatives. This role requires in-depth knowledge of program-specific compliance requirements and the ability to monitor, audit, and manage documentation to maintain program integrity and eligibility standards.

The Compliance Specialist serves as the key point of contact for regulatory agencies and property managers, ensuring compliance while supporting the operational efficiency of housing programs. This position involves conducting file reviews, resident eligibility verification, and compliance training for staff to promote consistent practices across properties. 

This position is mandatory on-site at a designated property (Aspen River Park Apartments in Newark, NJ) on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with flexibility for remote work or traveling to other properties as needed on the remaining days.

To Thrive in this role:

3-5 years of experience in affordable housing compliance management and in-depth understanding of Project-Based Section 8, LIHTC, Bond and USDA Rural Development regulations

Certifications highly preferred, such as Assisted Housing Manager (AHM), Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP), Certified Professional of Occupancy (CPO), Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) and Tax Credit Specialist (TCS)

Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with tenants, property management teams, and regulatory agencies

​Understanding of Fair Housing Laws and the ability to ensure compliance with these regulations with housing programs

Ability to handle pressure due to complexity and time sensitivity

Bonus Skills:

Familiarity with Yardi and other compliance systems for compliance tracking
