Your future position


Kpler is looking for an experienced Refineries Analyst in Houston to help support and further develop our refineries product offering. Our portfolio covers critical commodities that are integral to global energy and widely consumed oils. As part of our market data operations team, you'll play a vital role in driving the advancement of our refineries offering. Your contributions will be instrumental in ensuring our clients receive accurate and reliable data, empowering them to navigate intricate market dynamics and capitalize on emerging opportunities with confidence.


Your mission is to:
  • Own Quality: Maintain ownership of the refineries data. Take charge of specific regions and product groups and ensure the highest standard of data quality, by reviewing internal constraints and ingesting data from external sources. Own the crude assay DB, research and ideate with the team on secondary unit yields, product blending, etc.
  • Continuous improvement: Responsible for the mapping between Kpler installations and providers refineries. Be on top of unscraped market sources to input data relative to capacities in the DB. Refine the connectivity of refineries to Terminals - eg in China
  • Monitor market news and developments; Research grade level production data, and ideate with the team on how to make the dispatch to the refineries connected to the field. Maintain the backtest between Refineries data and national statistics (via S&D). Stay ahead of turnarounds from existing source(s) or from ad-hoc sources/market
  • As the SME of refineries, you will be at the forefront of internal and external questions on Refineries Intelligence, and help identify product development areas.


It could be a good fit if..
  • You have 3 - 5 years of experience working with large, disparate and/or unstructured data sets (advanced Excel and SQL skills).
  • You have proven experience integrating data and ease with working with databases.
  • Prior experience in shipping and trading, or knowledge about Petchems plants and/or about Biofuels plants.
  • You have experience working with some of the following tools: JIRA, Postman, Tableau, Power BI
  •  You show willingness to learn, are a team player, quick learner, and able to work within short deadlines across multiple tasks
  • You have the ability to work and communicate in an international cross-cultural environment, with a strong focus on providing solutions.
  • You are comfortable working with ambiguity and uncovering answers to complex product development questions.

Nice to have
  • Exposure to tools used for LP Modelling or analysing Refinery operations i.e PIMS, H/COMET, PetroPlan.
  • Experience using Python programming language.
